Since the N64 was released, ther have been complaints after complaints about there being to many kiddy games being released for it. Why is there so many complaints, I don't know, maybe it is because there is a lot of older gamers out there, But I'm an older gamer, and I don't see what is wrong.
these so called Kiddy games are actually pretty entertaining, and if you think about it, they are very popular. How many young gamers are out there?? well the answer to this question is loads, and these so called young gamers are who Nintendo focus there sales on.
They don't actually just focus on young gamers, they do focus on the older generation, but it isn't that obvious to me or you. Not so long ago a game known as Conkers bad fur day was released, and this is a great title. It has Character designs that appeal to the kiddies, but it has content for the older gamer. It is packed full of of toilet humour (the great mighty poo for example :-D) With out the explicit content this copuld be classed as a child's game, but wouldn't you still enjoy it??? I know I would.
With the release of the Gamecube coming closer everyday, we can expect som great games, whether they are aime at young or old, they are expected to be big. At the moment Nintendo have put alot of hype into this console, boasting about it's power and it's games. There have been many games under construction, and I can tell you there are all aimed at different aged gamers. Back to the point, is this the end of kiddis games and the title, N64 the "kiddies console" well we will just have towait and see.
thanx

Anyway - What defines a
> kiddy game??
Anything that appeals to pre-teens and noone else.
Anyway, I love games like Mario - Which is 'kiddy'.
The N64 has some of the goriest titles around - The PSX does as well, butboth have kiddy games- The PSX has more really??
Anyway - What defines a kiddy game??
> I know Ninty make great "family" games but after the pub on
> a Friday night they just won't do.
I don't know about that. There have been a number of ocassions in which I've had a bunch of mates over, the beer has been flowing, and we have a great laugh with the N64.
Mario Party 2 is a fantasic drunken game, as the mini games require some level of co-ordination, or are button bashers. It can get very competitive, and is hilarious.
Goldeneye is always fun, but when you're a littel bit bladdered you don't really take on the spy approach, you just run around, all guns blazing!
WWF No Mercy is another great fun game to play with your mates, especially when you have the weapons, or have a Royal Rumble.
And what beats Mario Kart in terms of multiplayer?
"Whenever someone chooses to attack Nintendo the words "kiddy console" always come up. Well everyone else is welcome to believe exactly what they like, but personally I don't see Nintendo consoles as 'kiddy', as see them as family entertainment."
Meka, this is a solid statement, because what you have said is the truth, Nintendo are here for families, not just a single age group. Their games may appear to be for the younger generation, but they are actually made to entertain people of all ages. If Nintendo got rid of this "tactic" they could lose half of there buyers.
"I'm quite content to play the likes of Banjo Tooie, Donkey Kong64 and Super Mario64 on my N64 because they're very enjoyable games. Yes they may be full of colour, and have plinky plonky happy tunes, but I just so happen to like this. The games are challenging (and before Goatboy says it, except Lylat Wars) and they're fun. I'm not saying that games on other consoles are not challenging and fun, that would be stupid. My duaghters quite like to watch me play this type of game, but if I put on something like TWINE, then they lose interest. If they lose interst, I have to keep them amused in some other manner, so playing the games that are typical to a Nintendo console makes me happy, and it makes the kids happy."
This is an example of what Nintendo have done. They have got games where children can be entertained just by watching an adult for example play a game like Mario. If nintendo got rid of these family games, then they would be making a big mistake. Where would Nintendo be without mario?? What would luigi look like if he wasn't designed with cartoony graphics??? I'll let you decide.
I do not really care if Nintendo plan to change their image with the Gamecube, but I would care if they stopped making the games that are looked at as “kiddies” games because I know that I would miss them all terribly. I know this will not happen because we have already been told that we will get to play a Mario game at launch, as well as a game that stars Luigi as the main character. I think that what so many people like about these so-called kiddie games is that the gameplay is just so good. Also, the story lines are very well thought out and leaves you feeling very addicted towards the game.
It all comes down to your taste of games, I happen to enjoy these so called kiddie games and I am not afraid to admit it because I think they are brilliant games. The PS2 focuses more on producing games for the more older gamer but that doesn’t make them any better.
So, I don’t think it is so much of a case of loosing their kiddie image but more as gaining an adult image at the same time. I know this may sound confusing but if it actually works then Nintendo will be dancing merrily around a coconut tree in bright coloured clothes and throwing their arms in the air with delight. Games like Perfect Dark are to me, perfect for a child and an adult. They feature humour and it is a game where you can muck around with your mates or book a date with it on Saturday night to try and beat the last boss you have been stuck on for the last few months.
So, with the Gamecube having more adult games out for it, as well as the classics I can’t see Nintendo going wrong, and I think they will do very well with the Gamecube. I really admire them for the games that they make. I really do feel very privileged to be playing games like Mario. I think that it has become a tradition for Nintendo to make games that are cuddly but as the same time very challenging to the gamer. How many of us N64 owners want Nintendo to lose their kiddie style games? I for one don’t, and I hope they continue to make games like Mario and Zelda for the Gamecube. I suppose the only plus point for them concentrating more on an adult style of games is that it would attract more people to the Gamecube. Therefor Nintendo will hopefully make more money but money isn’t Nintendo’s number one priority they just want customers to be happy with their consoles and games.
I think that with the N64 Nintendo were thinking to themselves “who cares if we are producing kiddie games” because afterall, they were selling well. However, with the Gamecube I think that they are thinking “we best release a few more adult games to get the adult gamer involved with the console”.
I think that, deep down, Nintendo know that they can’t just stop making games that feature cute characters because that is what they are really good at. Take Mario, Pokemon, DK, and all the other games that have cute and cuddly graphics the N64 would have never been as successful as they are today.
At the end of the rainbow I am a kid because I am only 14, so I am expected to play games all the time. I think my mum would much prefer me to be playing Mario where you get to save people rather than Grand Theft Auto where you get rewarded by killing people and running them over with cars etc.
