I predict that buy Christmas if Sony hasn't dropped the price of the PSone's and PS2's then Dixons will reduce the price and start a high street Price war or even a High Street vs. internet price war. If Sony are like many other manufacturers they will drop the price after Christmas or should that be they will HAVE to drop the price before we are graced with the X-Box at Easter. Dixons who also owns Curry's, PC World, @Jakarta (among others) and still have some kind of relationship with Freeserve will drop their price of a PS2 either temporally or permanently to about £200 and the PS1 to about £50 or they will Dramatically reduce the price of Pone & PS2 software.
Why you may ask? Well by slashing the PS2 in price it makes the console more attractive to parents buying there children a console or for people holding out for the X-Box. The PS1 will be aimed at young children (2-6)as will the £50 price tag for their parents. Dixions by cutting the price of the console will also gain great pre Christmas Publicity and with the price war it would create even more free Publicity or free advertising. The final thing a console price reduction would do is enable Dixions etc to sell bucket loads of games either bundled with the console or by parents doing all their shopping in one Shop, Console+Games+Accessories= Christmas sorted. We must also not forget the vulnerability of shoppers and the promises of Excellent service when you take out our warranty, I know we have all fell for that one.
Moving on to the GBA exept modest price reductions, amazing starter packs and lots of price wars. As for the Dreamcast well what can I say exept watch the shelves, After the january sales and if not before Christmas the Dreamcasts console will be in the bargain bucket and the few remaining high street shops will be clearing out the Dreamcast shelves of their games making way for the exodus of PS2 titles before the shelves are cleared forever to make way for the X-Box and all it's hype.
So in 5 months time we shall see whether my predictions are true, I can safely think to myself though with years of Christmas shopping behind me I'm not going to be far off the mark. Final thoughts go out to Smaller Retailers and parents the most likely casualties of a pre Christmas price war.

Dixons will not lower there price unless all the other stores do and this will only happen if Sony do. Their will probably be a Sony price drop on the PS2 in the run-up to christmas which will co-incide with the first platinum PS2 titles, SSX, Timesplitters et al. Sony will drop their prices so that sales of the PS2 will shoot up so in the hope to lure people waiting for the other consoles into buying a PS2. Also around Christmas and before many good PS2 games will come out e.g. FFX, MGS2 and other exceelent games. This is not a fluke. Sony will have planned something like this for a long time. If anything does happen it will be Sony's decision, not a high street store and definetely not Dixons!
