I predict that buy Christmas if Sony hasn't dropped the price of the PSone's and PS2's then Dixons will reduce the price and start a high street Price war or even a High Street vs. internet price war. If Sony are like many other manufacturers they will drop the price after Christmas or should that be they will HAVE to drop the price before we are graced with the X-Box at Easter. Dixons who also owns Curry's, PC World, @Jakarta (among others) and still have some kind of relationship with Freeserve will drop their price of a PS2 either temporally or permanently to about £200 and the PS1 to about £50 or they will Dramatically reduce the price of Pone & PS2 software.
Why you may ask? Well by slashing the PS2 in price it makes the console more attractive to parents buying there children a console or for people holding out for the X-Box. The PS1 will be aimed at young children (2-6)as will the £50 price tag for their parents. Dixions by cutting the price of the console will also gain great pre Christmas Publicity and with the price war it would create even more free Publicity or free advertising. The final thing a console price reduction would do is enable Dixions etc to sell bucket loads of games either bundled with the console or by parents doing all their shopping in one Shop, Console+Games+Accessories= Christmas sorted. We must also not forget the vulnerability of shoppers and the promises of Excellent service when you take out our warranty, I know we have all fell for that one.
Moving on to the GBA exept modest price reductions, amazing starter packs and lots of price wars. As for the Dreamcast well what can I say exept watch the shelves, After the january sales and if not before Christmas the Dreamcasts console will be in the bargain bucket and the few remaining high street shops will be clearing out the Dreamcast shelves of their games making way for the exodus of PS2 titles before the shelves are cleared forever to make way for the X-Box and all it's hype.
So in 5 months time we shall see whether my predictions are true, I can safely think to myself though with years of Christmas shopping behind me I'm not going to be far off the mark. Final thoughts go out to Smaller Retailers and parents the most likely casualties of a pre Christmas price war.

OK I'll accept apologies. I knew that the PS2 would be £200 by Christmas.

PS I hope my "paragraphing" and general layout of my posts have improved since this post?

I am not going to read the post for lack of paragraphs. But I will say:

PS2 will definitley drop. So will the games. More games will be on DVD - bonus.

GC and Xbox will remain at launch price.

GBA will stay the same although more original games will be released at a higher price.

Feel free to ignore, laugh or get very worried at the above BS.

I'm with Mewtwo on this one, although I don't see the reductions been that good. November 5th is, I think, the GC's release date, so we should see a slight reduction in the PS2 price by then, to maybe £229 at the VERY best, although perhaps £249 will be more accurate.

(I can see Tony breaking out in a sweat now...)

By Christmas, stocks of the DC will be VERY low, so demand will have increased, so therefore it stands to reason that the DC price may remain around the £99 mark.

But because Microsoft have already set a price of $299 for the XBox in the US market, I think we'd be lucky to see it over here for anything less than £300 come Easter time.

Personally I don't care, I've got the £300 ready and waiting, if it comes in any cheaper I'll just buy a beer to celebrate with the change.

:-)

RE: Grix Thraves how many time must I tell people I KNOW MY ENGLISH IS RUBBISH

RE: ICEFIRE So Dixons wasn't selling the Dreamcat In April last year for £150 inc 5 GAMES this was before most shops had even dropped the price to £150. They do silly prices all the time In May 2000 I bought one of the fisrt DVB TVS. (Built in OnDigital). It was a 28" Dolby Pro Locic, widscreen, Intergarted Ondigital, In silver with a Stand for.......£299.99 + I got 12 month Ondigital FREE worth then £120. Now you try and find The Cheepest Dolby 28" Widescreen or DVB today for under £300 you won't.
The Dixons group have the largest Electrical/Console etc buying power in the UK and is Also the largest Retailer, so they arn't bothered about a few quid off the PS2, as I said at chrismas if people are buying there PS2 from Dixions because it's cheep then their also likeley to buy overpriced warranty's, Game's and Accesories making Dixons a tidy Profit.
