Myself.. I'm not really anything much, I usually just wear jeans with any polo shirt I can find in the cupboard. After I went through the 'skater' phase that everyone went through when I was younger, I haven't ever really worn a Hoody again, and all I tend to wear is a top or jumper, maybe a thick coat if it's cold - but not one with a roadkill thing stapled round the neck...
So yeah, I just wear 'normal' clothes really, and my hair is just 'styled' with a bit of gel into a rough quif, nothing fancy. Can't pull off long hair myself, tried when I was younger and ended up with a big fuzzy ball.
My haircut is pretty much stereotypical of someone who is emo, long fringe straightened over one eye with the back spikey, its not black, but its pretty dark and I did dye the hair underneath the top of my fringe a dark red in september so yeah...
You could say I dress in an emo way, but it's not like over done, just jeans, hoody, vans/converse etc. I'm not like super skinny jeans wearing, all black lover or anything.
Music I listen to again falls into the emo category but I listen to a lot of metal and indie so it's not something I breathe day in and day out, for example I've got John Petrucci on at the mo'.
The only thing that bugs me is when someone uses the label as a derogatory term, I mean yeah I dress in a certain way and I listen to a certain type of music and go to the bands' shows but the whole stereotypical view of "emo" winds me up. The whole self harm thing is the main thing, "you fit the bill, therefore you must hate life and cut yourself", theres also the whole, "stop trying to be individual, you're conforming by dressing like that". Some people just need to understand the person instead of basing everything on some idea that they have in their heads of how that person is.
Although I guess I should take some of my own medicine really as I'm a bit quick to jump the gun calling someone a chav based on how they dress, unfortunately it's normally backed up by them acting in a retarded way seconds after I get the notion.
At the end of the day, labels suck. So what if people conform to certain stereotypes, who cares? Everyone's an individual, something thats easy to see if people actually take the time to get to know them.
Ditto on Ladybird comment. :P
