Sorry if this question has already been asked and answered but why are they so expensive? I've seen some Dvd's that are about £25 and up. I know the quality is better than a video and you do get a few extras but does that really give then the right to slap another £10 onto the price?
Is the manufcaturing process more expensive than making a video? For some reaon i doubt it but i don't know anything about Dvd's so it could be.
If anybody could enlighten me i would be very greatful.

DVD's are about 100% cheaper than Videos to make as the DVD costs about 2p each with the electricity powering the machines to input the info on the DVD costing about 2p a minute (estimate). That is cheap!

In the next 2 years DVD's will decrease rapidly to the same price as videos used be before DVD's came. About £10! Thats a good price, as you cannot buy new PC Games or any other console games for £10.

At the moment you will have to shop around for the best price. I normally go to Shopsmart.com or here to buy DVD's as shopsmart can normally find the best price.

For example i was looking for the Reservior Dogs DVD Box Set. I went to Shopsmart and typed it in and i made a saving of £6.00 with free delievery!

Amazon were selling it for £21.00 and i got it for £15.00 from DVDstreet.com.

Why are DVD's so expensive? because hollywood pays to much to employ crap actors, CJJ007 said in his topic that Harrison Ford is getting Twentey Million for the new Indiana Jones Film. Twenty Million wheather Dollars Or Sterling is too much for one actor, Just imagine to recoup that amount of money would take ONE MILLION DVD's at £20 each and then we wonder why DVD's are so expensive.

Think 16.99 seems the rrp for most one disc new releases in the UK but if you look around at places like MVC or internet sites then you can usually find them for 12.99-15.00. If anyone knows where these 9.99 new releases are then its a good secret ! Maybe he means new DVD discs whch are re releases of old VHS or music/docu ones ? I bought the new Chrisitna Aguilera DVD from DVD street for 9.99 on day of release by preordering it so he's kinda right.

On the DVD recorder thing, I dont think its the companies keping it secret as the technology is not much more than CD-R technology, its more a case of making the machines affordable to the average person so that we can all buy one ! Toshiba launch one for a rrp of 299.99 in december but I dont know the model number off hand. The movie companies would have little to fear from DVD recorders anyway....can you say "macrovision" ? :)

It depends where you buy them, there are a few places that I have seen where you can get bew releases for £9.99. Not everywhere sells DVD's at these high prices.
DVD's cost a little more to make than a video but not enough to add a tenner to the price. So if you look around before you buy to find the cheapest place.

dvd has yet to take off.
For those off us that can afford to have the players
can often afford the films.
Prices will go down as more people buy the playyers and the market grows.
They will continue to charge large amounts for them until it becomes more profitable to lower prices (and the affect on demand results in much higher sales) or until competition on price begins between companys etc
