I was thinking of getting a new computer for my room, as my Pentium 3 has some serious problems. Now I don't want anything top of the range, just something that will let me do my homework/browse the net and play games. Now I know my dad won't dish out £800-£1200 for a new PC for me so I thought I'd have a look on E-Bay and I found some pretty good stuff on there such as:

Anyway, I was wondering what you all thought. Is it wise to buy PC's on E-Bay? Have any of you ever bought any on there? How was the PC? Good? Bad?

How much do you want for the monitor?

Also.. My PC's about... ooh... A year old? I updated it a few months ago, 712 RAM, 120 GB space...

But it p!sses me off, because it's a DELL. And I hate DELL. I'd like to get Bill Gates and ram dell up his tiny ass, just for the sake of it.

But yeah, I'm thinking of building my own PC. I'll probably have a budget of, ooh, around £300-£400. The 712MB ram can be removed, so that's about £75 off anyway. Decent monitor, 21", but will most likely want a TFT or CFT because it'll fit on my desk better (:D). I can salvage my mouse and keyboard, and perhaps my speakers, although I'll probably wanting a proper system with a big fat subwoofer and maybe some satellites.

Can you salvage DVD / CD / Floppy drives? Because as I said, mine was new a year ago and has pretty quality stuff in that department.

Also, bought an ATI Radion (9600?) graphics card about a month ago, but, me being so stupid as I am, neglected to check if my motherboard had a PCI slot, which it didn't.

So yeah. Can you salvage HD's without the motherboard or is it all... Complicated?

Well, congrats if you understood that, because I know absolutely bog all about building a PC.

Oooh, also, P4 proccesor.

But if you'd help me, I'd be so grateful...

Actually, you'd be able to do stuff with that. You just wouldn't be able to afford the best video card or processor.

Well I'd say my budget is abut £300, I can't build my own with that much can I? The computers on there look mighty cheap for their specs...

. . . Sorry, I really must stop playing Star Trek in mid-conversation.

As I was saying, build your own. I built mine, and it's rather good.

I'll have to agree, build your own.

I managed to do it and I'm a dunce.

Yeah Lipe, building your own would be the best option, if you have the balls to do it anyway.

I got an Athlon XP 2600, GeForce4 Ti4800, 512 DDR RAM, 60 gig HD etc etc up and running with XP home for around £500 that was around a year ago. I did recycle the monitor/speakers/mouse etc though.
Or was it £400?
I can't remember now.
I saved money by cutting corners on stuff like modems and floppy drives (which I didn't bother with), didn't bother with a DVD drive (although if I did it again now I probably would), and like I've already said, I didn't need a monitor.

Or get someone who knows how to do it for ya.

And as you already probably have mouse/speakers/keybaord/monitor, you can go cheaper.

You could get a decent gaming rig done for 500 like that.

Ie. Case (poss inc psu -30)
Motherboard-50
Athlon XP2800+ (retail) - 90
Ram Pc3200 512MB DIMM - 80
120GB HD - 55
DVD or CD Rewriter - 35
Floppy - 10
2 IDE Cables -15
Modem - 10
Windows XP OEM -40

That page doesn't load. What's your budget? Traditionally if you go for a cheap pre-built PC, you're running the gauntlet with a whole lot of potentially rock-bottom-quality hardware. Have you thought about building your own? This can be very cheap to do, especially if you don't want something cutting-edge.
