Nintendo keep on producing original and innovative titles, but they stick with the characters that we all know and love.
Imagine if Luigis Mansion (a forthcoming GAMECUBE game for those that don't know) was not Luigi's Mansion, but simply 'Haunted Mansion', ie it didn't feature Luigi. Would the title be as popular? You have to admit that it looks like a great game, and is quite different from anything that has come before it, so would anyone risk buying a game like this if it didn't have Luigi to fall back on?
This shows Nintendo's good business sense, they know that originality is a risk, and that their big franchises sell like hot cakes, so combining the two, creating innovative gaming experiences featuring the characters we know and love, gives us the best of both worlds.
Anyway, back to Sega.
It was always their games that made them special, not their consoles. I had a Sega Master System and a Megadrive, and I can honestly say that any title that Sega have been involved with has turned out to be a gem. I love the classic Sega games like Shinobi, Space Harrier, Alex Kidd, Wonderboy and the Phantasy Star series. I can't wait for Segas games to become available for the GAMECUBE, with Phatasy Star Online featuring things that are not present in the Dreamcast version. Super Monkey Ball also looks to be a fantastically simply yet addictive game.
So welcome Sega with open arms, they'll bring you some great games.
I wonder if he realises that Sonic The Hedgehog wouldn't be where he is today if it wasn't for a short fat plumber and an angry gorilla?
