Mario's been and gone and but God foribid he's on his way back,
Sonic sped off into obscurity and also is now retired to retro gaming (The Dreamcast)
Lara's about to have her finest hour or should that be final hour?
So dear fellow gamers, Who shall replace these charactors, that we have learned to love and loath so much?

Clearly, the most popular gaming icon of all time has to be Lara Croft. Now with the lucrative Tomb Raider movie in production, I think we'll see Paramount using the platform as a cash cow, and Angelina Jolie could be making more than just the one movie from it.

We could be seeing the female equivalent of James Bond in the making here. In which case, looking to the future, the number of TR spinoffs and amount of publicity which the game will get will ensure that Lara Croft is on everyone's lips in the gaming world for a very long time to come.

Sonic is still here. Mario is the best selling GBA game and Lara is about to hit the big screen.

Jak and Daxter. See OPS2 #9 for more details.

Those with #8 will be surprised to learn it is Project Y!

Pokemon aren't all that bad. The Gameboy RPG's were first class. So what if the N64 Pokemon games, the cards and the TV shows were useless.

The Gameboy Pokemon are great. So what if they spawned an incredibly annoying franchise!

I'm not sure about Joanna Dark, but Mario has got to carry on,he was the main character of all the beginning nes, snes, gameboy, gameboy advance, and the N64, he started the gaming characters, and he will carry on to the end...

Pokemon will not carry on, if they do, i'll find something else to do like my own games using DARKbasic

The future of gaming is..... Joanna Dark!

You watch!

In reply:

Rare have said that Joanna may not even appear in the sequel to PerfectDark. Even if she lasts for a while her popularity will only have a limited appeal long term.

Mario on the other hand has the appeal to last for an eternity. Mario has appeared in so many different game genres, and all his games are great.

Mario Forever!

I think there will be alot more than one main character. I think the days of having someone like Mario or sonic are gone. There are to many now which stand out.
