Nintendo's game developer website has published a letter telling independent games producers that due to the demand for GC dev kits, only companies with an agreed publishing deal for the Gamecube will be allocated a Dev KIt, but even then they are not guaranteed. Apparently they are blaming the shortages on the response the Gamecube has recieved since E3, but that stinks really bad. Why bother releasing a console if you cannot give the developers the technology they need to release the games??

If these reported rumours are true, people may find Sony to be their best friend again, currently the only company who have been able to meet the demand for Dev Kits, and they have the largest number of developers supporting their console. What may also be worrying developers about the situation with the Dev Kits is that they are being pushed down the same road as Microsoft, by giving developer support through publishig companies and not direct with the team responsible for developing the console. This may lead to games being released way below par and being totally outshone by Nintendo and Rare, or anyone ese being regarded as a good frien to the GC i.e. Sega!!

This situation happened with the N64, Nintendo didn't support the developers directly, and when problems surfaced, they just jumped ship and were mopped up by the willing Sony, providing their own developer support scheme!!

It will be a sad sight to see for Nintendo, but they may look forward on the horizon and see Sony crossing the finishing line whilst they are struggling to keep the engine running!!

That wasn't enough to keep the N64 afloat, though!!! It bowed to the PSOne, and history could be repeating itself!

Well unlike Sony, Nintendo can produce their own first class titles so if there's slight delay between some of the minor third party companies getting to work, it won't affect the Gamecube too much.

I think that the likes of Sega and Capcom will some of the companies that got enough kits to get to work on some killer titles.

Sony had all sorts of problems with their own dev kits when the PS2 is launched.

Anyway, its only a rumour and I doubt it so far.

Nintendo know that the PS only beat it thanks to a lack of third party support. They're being very careful not to make the same mistake again.
