My pc has an built in Intel 82845g graphics 64meg shared ram, would a gforce fx5200 64 meg card be better? The system has 512 meg memory, would more memory help? Is there any other ways of getting better performance form my graphics? I was just given prince of persia but it would not run. Is the original half life still in the shops? What specs does it need to run well? Soz for all the questions, any help with any of these would be great.

I went onto the Intel web page and downloaded the latest drivers for my graphics what is there effect? When I loaded toco race driver 2 it came with a patch for direct x9. When I did a system review It listed that I had direct x9?

Half Life? Yes it will work well. The demands of the orignal isn't that much really, it works fine on the laptop. The sequel, most probably not. The guy who said the Intel shared memory is better was just trying to make a quick buck with the cheaper solution. Having the dedicated graphics card (especially with the same amount of RAM) is far better.

Also, if it is Half Life 2 you're talking about, at least it would run (just about) on the FX5200 because at least it supports DirectX 9. The Intel onboard graphics only officially works with OpenGL, though older games will probably work too.

However, you should get at least a mid range graphics card such as a Radeon 9600, or even high end ones like the 9800 which are still relatively cheap.

We only just got the computer, the one we looked at on the shop floor had the same spec but a gforce fx5200. When we collected our pc I noticed it had the shared graphics. I had a word with the guy and he assured me this was better! The processor is a Intel celeron 2.8ghz, would that be enough for half life? thanks for the help.

Half-Life will run assuming your processor is half decent, and that FX5200 would be better than your onboard graphics although it's still not very powerful. Prince of Persia will run on it but it'll struggle.
