Back in the old days fighting games had 2 types, one on one tekken style fighting and the other a scrolling fighter like double dragon and streets of rage. Now we have one type, the one on one like bloody roar,Tekken and Dead or Alive.

What happened to the scrolling fighters which had heaps of guys to beat up, It would make an amazing game on todays consoles. The Bouncer is supposed to take up this idea but from what I've heard squaresoft have concentrated more on the story side like the final fantasy's and I've heard it's a below average fighter.

Will anyone ever make an up to date version of these tops games??

They should leave Streets Of Rage 2D. Just increase the move count, have 50 odd enemies on the screen, and give it a 4 player co-op. (salivates)

Power Stone 2 is a brilliant game. Definately a platform beat em up, but what fun it was to play.

I've been meaning to play that game. From what I've heard, it's really good.

You could rank the Powerstone series in to the platform beat em up. As especially on Power Stone 2 you need to move around the levels and jump up plat forms and over to other platforms e.t.c.

There's another type too now.

The platforming beat em up.

That's where instead of fighting on a flat surface, you jump around on platforms too. So there's a lot of manourvering as well as combo's and attacks.

Smash Brothers is the only one of it's kind right now but millions of inferior clones are going to pop up sooner or later :-D

Actually, the bouncer got some very poor reviews from EDGE... it said that the cutscenes were uselss, and even more importantly, it was impossible to aim an attack at one particular enemy... somethine that may take a while to solve (maybe a Z-lock like in Zelda???)

The Bouncer is getting alright reviews around 5-6/10. They say its bad because you have the long sequences that I dont think can be skipped. There are spose to be a ton on extra gameplay mode and characters that can be gained by getting the battle points from the 1 player game. You need to complete the one player game about 5 times to get all the stuff, and they say it gets really boring as watching each sequence 5 times is very boring. The magazines say that its actually a good beat em up when you get all the stuff as then you dont have to play the single player game and watch another sequence. I think this could be a game worth renting as I will rent it in the next few weeks hopefully.
