This was the First game i ever truly loved! released by Atari in 1987 it was true genius at work and i spent hundreds of hours killing the Spanish all over the Carribean. You could plunder vilages, fight people in comedy 1987 graphics battles while your crew died of screen. Have proper sea battles and mary the governors daughter. This game was so good, years ahead of its time. There have been many efforts to replicate it over the years such as Corsairs and Cutthroats. Cutthroats was very good but wasn't a huge improvement on the old original apart from shiney graphics and really well done land battles.

Now the glory is resurrected! later in the year Sid Meiers Pirates is being recreated by the man himself, and looks pretty damn good. this will be my most important pre christmas purchase (yes unlucky half life 2-nah i'm buying that too, and i still love you football manager!)!. This had better be awesome!

It's on my list as well, although accompanied by Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, Football Manager 2005, GTA: San Andreas and Evil Genius.

Pirates! and Civ II have perhaps never been bettered.

The first for the sheer joy you could gain by going YARRR! and attacking French towns, the second simply because it's brilliant.

The next Pirates! and Locomotion are the two PC games I want, as well as perhaps Half Life 2.

Railroad Tycoon and its deluxe edition are standout favourites for me- It was incredibly basic, but each games could go on for ages, and it was really satisfying when you started reeling in large revenues.

My favourite Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri. It included diffrent factions to whom you allied with or annihalated. You start with nothing and end up with new troops, aeroplanes and new tanks. Everything gets upgraded providing you have the right data. I spent hours on this and is one of my favourite games on the pc.

I very much hope it is, as Sid Meier is someone I respect a lot, being a fan of Civilization and Railroad Tycoon. He's been involved in games for 20+ years and still has it- Sim Golf, which i had the deom of but never bought, was actually pretty good despite the fact it owes a fair bit to the Sims.
