The PS2 has had a rocky start hasn't it. I mean, all that hype over Sony's new console, and then when it's released, the launch line up doesn't turn out to be as good as it could have been. I have seen a lot of posts with people complaining about how bad the launch line up was, and how there aren't any must have games out for the PS2 at the moment. Part of this is true, the launch line up was abit disappointing, with only one or two brilliant titles available from launch. At the moment, those must-have titles are starting to make appearances. So lets take a look at what is to come for the PS2.

First of all, the online prospect of the PS2. Well, the announcement that the PS2 will be online by the end of the year (in the US anyway), was made at the recent E3 show. It was said that Sony have gone into partnership with some major companies, which are: Cisco, who, as far as I know, will be developing the PS2 optimised Internet protocol (IP) software for the broadband/digital content; AOL, who will be developing the Netscape Navigator for e-mailing and things like that; RealNetworks and Macromedia will be developing the audio and visual parts. These four companies will certainly help Sony to acheive they're online dream.
But what about the connection? There will be an analogue/ethernet network adaptor made available for a price of about $40, which will enable the PS2 to connect to a standard 56K modem. Then there is the Hard Drive, which will be available at around about the same time.
Is this good? Well, of course it is. We will finally be able to play our games online. I can't wait. But, there is one problem. People will start to complain that the PS2 is becoming more like a PC. But, to counter attack this, the main reason for the internet is online games. So, that squashes those complaints.

Ok, what about the most important part, the games? Well, there are several brilliant games heading the PS2's way, some of which, will certainly help to shift some PS2's, that's for sure. Let's take a look at some of those all important titles.

GT3: Well, what can I say that hasn't been said before. Stunning visuals, the most realistic handling ever, cars to die for and gameplay to match. As I said, what can I say now that hasn't been said already. All I can add is that this will be one of those titles that will shift those PS2 units.

FinalFantasy10: This is going to be a cracker, that's for sure. There is loads of hype over this game, with magazines saying, and I quote "This is the best looking game ever". I won't go into any details, but I will say that this could be the game that will get me interested in the Final Fantasy series.

Tony Hawks 3: This is one game I am looking forward to playing, having seen the game in action, and being mighty impressed with what I saw. New moves, characters, levels and stunning visuals and gameplay to match. Well, if this can improve on the previous Tony Hawks, then it'll be a winner.

WWF Smackdown 3: This could be another game that will shift those PS2's. With tonnes of new matches, loadsa moves and lovely visuals, this will be a brilliant games that I will certainly be buying.

Have I missed anything, oh yes, Metal Gear Solid 2, how could I forget. Well, as I said for GT3, is there anything that I can say about this game, that hasn't been said before. So, I will just leave it there.

There are tonnes of brilliant games heading this way for the PS2, which I will not go into as there are far too many, but the future is certainly looking bright for PS2.
All I can say is that the Gamecube and Xbox will have a fight on their hands, and a tough one at that!

Thanks for reading

Glad to see someone else thought the same about that preview! Thanks for the info on the release date of DMC Adrian.

Bonus, yeah I agree with you, I like my games dark and gruesome etc but when your watching a demo....well it almost put me off buying it!

I thought Silent Hill 2 looked well smart as well, that was dark and gruesome but at least you could see what the hell was going on! I think I'll be buying that!!

I want my games to be dark!!! Really I do, if it was intended to be that dark, then it will stay that dark on my TV. It adds to the atmosphere, suspense and overall dificulty of the game, don't sell out over cosmetics guys, you didn't buy a PS2 for ninty bright graphics did you??

Devil May Cry will be here by Nov/Dec. Resident Evil CVX did look rubbish on the DVD as it was really dark but trust me it wont be as dark as the proper game. I own the DC version and it is quite dark and can be really annoying when its light as you can see all the reflections on the TV. Dont let the video put you off as you can easily turn the brightness up on your TV if you think its too dark.
