I wonder how you lot may react to this now!
There will always be something to sit down, and play on. Some people are blaming it on originality. Sure games like Command and Conquer and Quake have almost been pipped dry, but others have not, and some styles of games have not even been thought of yet.
You cannot say that sequels are pointless, and are almost the same as the prequels either. If people thought that, how did Pokemon Gold/Silver, Final Fantasy, and Zelda MM do so well?
One after another, newer consoles will be designed and made. This will never get to the point where consoles are boring and shouldn't be touched. Each time a new console is made all the games are 'reset'. In the future there might be a Mario Kart 9. Then a new console is released, yet people still buy version 10. This is because no matter what game or genre it is, people enjoy playing it the plotline, no matter how old the idea was.
Creating sequels works with any type of genre. Racing games can add new tracks and features like GT3 did. RPG's can add a new storyline like Zelda did. And shoot'em ups or beat 'em ups can add new characters, yet another new plot line, new guns etc. like PD did over Goldeneye (though not directly connected, but similar) or Tekken 3 over Tekken TT.
So the truth is that new ideas and additions will always be added, depending not on how old the game idea, or game itself is.
Games 4 ever!
It's just too long if you ask me. But hey? What can you do apart from complain constantly to your regular mag?
Consoles will just keep on improving. No matter what you say.
They're not perfect now, and won't be for many years to come, but the companies will always try to achieve something greater.
