Bill Hicks, my absolute hero and one of the greatest stand-up comedians of all time (he died at 32 of pancreatic cancer) used to use jokes to highlight the injustice, absurdity and plain stupidness of 95% of the world's population.
But he always finished his show with his belief and coda in life, which is something I make sure I remember daily and live by:

"Life is just a ride on an amusement park. It has many chills and spills, it is very brightly coloured and it's fun...for a while.
There are those that have gone on, and they come back to us and say 'Hey, it's just a ride, there's nothing to fear ever because it's just a ride'.

And we...kill those people! 'Shut him up! This has to be real, look at my bank account, look at my children, look at my furrows of worry..this has to be real'.
But it's just a ride.

And here's what we can do right now to change our world, just a choice. No money, no savings, no jobs, just a choice right here and now.
The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your door, stay inside and watch tv.
The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one and say 'Dont ever be afraid or scared because it's just a ride'.

Why can't we take all that money we spend on weapons and defence each year, trillions of dollars, and instead spend that money feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world? And then we can explore space, both inner and outer, forever. In peace.
It's just a ride folks...nothing more, just a ride."

So, just relax, dont worry about those exams, that job, which console is better, when you can buy the latest designer shoe for £80.
It's just a ride.

Peace

Don't worry about things that you can not change.

Life is too short to worry about things that MIGHT happen, just live life to it's full.

Always look on the bright side of life. Thats what you mean isn't it Ant. I mean if we didn't we would all be grumpy old people.

A bit of advice that I've always tried to follow.

Don't always think about the bad aspects life. I mean, if I always talked about the bad stuff in life (murder etc), and if I kept saying to myself, "Oh no, I've got no self-confidence and the hardest years of my life are about to start!" Then I wouldn't be a very happy person.

But if you look at things from a different point of view, the FUNNY point of view, life can be a lot better.

I mean, look at politics. A lot of people worry about who's in government, and people get annoyed with other parties etc.
But when you think about it, it could be quite funny. I mean, it's quite amusing watching three groups of people shouting at eachother, really.

It's hard to explain, but if you look at life in a light-hearted way, then you won't be so annoyingly sad or unhappy all the time.

Grix nailed it completely and got what I was on about.
Then it slid into a religious argument for a while and some sarcastic comments.
Topic Heading: For those that take life seriously.

And that’s all I’m saying.
Just relax and don’t worry if someone’s a Christian/Catholic/Buddhist…it doesn’t matter one little bit.
Nor does it matter who wins free stuff, who’s a newbie, which console is better and blah blah blah.
It’s fun to discuss, but there has been some serious anger floating round here recently, as well as in day to day life.
Someone said, further down this thread that they got hassled for not taking his job at Tesco seriously whilst on the tills.

Good.
I’ve lost a couple of jobs for “not giving 100%”, and replied with “Yeah, because it’s just a job”.
It doesn’t matter to me.
I work to pay some bills, nothing more. I don’t seek a career, because I don’t want one. I don’t care what job I do as long as it keeps the wolves from the door.

What matters to me is my friends and my band.
Anything else is something I have to do for a while – not to be taken seriously.
That’s why most of my posts in this place are childish nonsense, just attempts at humour and trying to put an issue in a light that isn’t entirely serious.
There are subjects I take very seriously, and there are some posts hidden on this site that are “adult and respectable”.

But, 9-10 I’m a clown.
Because life is funny, to be taken and shaken for the most enjoyment and fun.
I see so many people complaining they’re not happy, they hate their jobs, their life yet do nothing to change that.
I had a serious car accident over 10 years ago that I should not have come out of, and it changed my outlook on life.

It can end at any moment, so make damn sure you make the most of each day, treat each as your last so should it end tomorrow, you wont feel regret or misery at not having said/done/thought something.
Whether it’s talking to that girl/boy you fancy but think they might say no, learning to play an instrument, taking flying lessons, painting or writing.
That’s part of why I love this site – People come up with short stories and long stories.
Things they clearly love doing and have pride in it, post it for others to read and the comments are always positive.

That is why you should post, not to win a free game/movie, but because you love doing that. Doesn’t matter if you win, you’re doing something you love to do, which is more than a lot of people do with their days.
I spend a lot of time playing music with my band, we’ve had some interest from labels, but that isn’t why I do it.
I do it because I get a kick from it, I feel 100ft tall onstage with people cheering and singing along.

That is what I love in my life, and being with friends, playing video-games, watching movies and, above all else, not taking it all so seriously.

Relax, lighten up and make today the most you can, because you might not get another go tomorrow.
There is a cliché “Life is not a rehearsal”, but it’s true.

You’ve always wanted to play an instrument? Sing? Paint? Write? Learn to Unicycle? Do it, why are you wasting your precious time just thinking about it.

. . .

Inspirational talk of the day is now over.
