Many of you know I am a part-time paranormal investigator for the Bristol Paranormal Research Group and I find it really interesting just talking to people about their thoughts and feelings on the matter. Have you had an experience that you cannot explain, seen and heard things that send shivers down your spine or just been spooked by something that has happened. Or, like some people I have met (and worked with) they think it's a complete load of excrement and a waste of time.
Machie insisted I post some sort of intelligent debate, so why not have one that combines people's views on science with a spiritualism touch.
It'll be interesting to hear what you guys have to say whilst I'm away scanning eyes at work - and I will pop back lunchtime-ish (if possible) to discuss what I really think.

Like some others here, my feelings on this are mixed. Whilst I happily believe in the existence of life on other planets I find the whole idea of ghosts and spirits etc. laughable and are merely created within the minds of people that want to believe they exist. Hypnotherapy works on the same principle, unless your mind is open to being hypnotised and you fully believe it is possible, it wont work. People like Derren Brown and those that claim they can contact the dead will only have an affect on these people as they are easily susceptible to mental persuasion of this kind.
As I have a logical brain and am a fairly scientific person I am not one of these people, instead looking for the (sometimes obvious) reason behind what people are seeing/hearing/doing. For the same reason I do not believe in/follow any type of religion (unless you look at my census form a few years back, then I am 'Jedi'), I would want proof before I fully went one way or the other.
I realise these statements are probably contradictory with my belief that there are other lifeforms out there, but that is simply my statistical brain playing the odds :) Each to their own though I guess.

To be honest pete, I have to agree with you. What keeps 'spirits' alive is the thoughts of them by the living. Forget and they're gone. My mum and grandmother are both dead - still waiting for hot lottery tips though:-D
I haven't had an experiences, but I do believe there is something. Like hippyman I find it all terribly interesting and would love to go visit haunted locations, infact I suggested we have a Freeola trip to one of Englands most haunted castles and do some investigations.
My views tend to support that there could be some validity in some inexplicable occurences, which really doesn't say anything either way....however I am open to a valid explanation.
I remember reading somewhere, a few years ago, of a theory that suggested that we co-exist along side other, parallel worlds. These 'worlds' co-exist quite happily and each one is totally unaware of the others. Until that is, they coincide. It is at this point, that awareness becomes more apparent and 'shadowy' figures etc are glimpsed. Whether you subscribe to this 'theory' is for you to reveal HM.
