The year is 2046. Videogames are no longer a popular pastime so all the great heroes from the gaming world have retired. They now all live in a place called Pixel Street. Let’s see what they’re all up to today…

Mario rang the bell at number 31. “I don’t know why you’re bothering,” said his brother Luigi. “We all know he’s crazy.” Mario scowled. He was now a bitter old man, after his one true love Peach had, in a bizarre move, run off and got married to his nemesis, Bowser. “I have to get rid of all these pesky kids,” he said. The door was answered by Ms Pacman. “Hello boys! Come on in,” she said.

The two men went into the back room where they found Pacman in his rocking chair. “Hello there,” said Mario. “There’s something I’d like to talk to you about. Over the last few years a number of characters have moved in, and frankly, they’re affecting the profile of the street. I mean, I would hardly call Crash Bandicoot a gaming legend, would you? More a pretender to my throne, I think. And Michelle and Julia Chang – nobody ever liked them, did they? Anyway, as the oldest member of the street, I think you should be the one to do something about it.” Pacman looked bemused. “The ghosts…the ghosts…” he muttered. “Trapped in a giant maze…” Luigi looked at his brother. “I told you he was mad,” he said. They left the house and headed home. “What are you going to do now?” asked Luigi. “Oh, I’ll think of something, you mark my words,” replied Mario.

Meanwhile, Rinoa Heartily and Princess Zelda were chatting to each other over their shared fence. “So are you and Squall still coming round tonight?” asked Zelda. “Oh yes,” replied Rinoa. “I just wish he and Link would stop bickering about who has the better RPG. Why can’t they realise that they’re both great games, but in different ways?” Zelda nodded her head.

“Anyway,” said Rinoa, “I met Joanna Dark the other day, and she said that she was thinking of buying a house here.” Zelda looked a little surprised. “Really?” she replied. “Well, I would hardly call her a videogame legend like you and me. In my view, Perfect Dark was spoiled by terrible slowdown and a boring one-player mode, meaning that Goldeneye provided a much more satisfying gaming experience.” Rinoa chuckled. “Wise words indeed,” she said.

Just then Sonic whizzed by, shouting, “Hi ladies!” as he passed. “Hi Sonic!” they cried in unison. “Nice frame-rate,” commented Zelda. “Yeah,” agreed Rinoa.

Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong were finishing breakfast. “What are you doing today then?” asked Diddy (in monkey-language obviously). “Well,” said DK, “I’m taking Rambi for a walk and then I’m going to see Toejam and Earl. In fact, I’m going right now.” DK walked out the back door, but quickly returned. “Hey, where’s Rambi?” Diddy looked round. “Is he not out back?” he said. “Obviously not, otherwise I wouldn’t have asked where he was!” said DK. “Did you close the gate last night?” Diddy thought about it. “No…” he said sheepishly. DK looked angry. “Aghhh! He could be anywhere by now! Come on, we’re going to look for him. Now, if you were a rhinoceros, where would you go?”

Some time later DK returned and found Diddy already there. “No luck?” asked Diddy. “No,” answered DK. “I checked at Banjo and Kazooie’s house, Megaman’s house and I asked Conker and the boys, but nobody’s seen him. He’s gone.” They sat in silence for a moment. Just then the doorbell rang. It was Cranky Kong. “You young whippersnappers ought to be more careful,” he said. “I don’t suppose you’d even noticed that Rambi had disappeared. Well, here he is anyway. He wandered over to me and Wrinkly’s house last night. Be more careful next time, you big ape.” Rambi charged into DK, knocking him over. “Rambi’s home!” cried DK, lying on the floor. “Ouch, my chest!”

95 more posts after this one, and I can go mess up the Fog Prime at last... hurrah.

I need not worry about word count. I'll just reply quoting one of the stories, or something.
