When we think of RAP music, we think of hard, chain clad men shouting about something, usually just stuff that doesn’t make much sense or words that popped into their mind and they scribble them down. A slow or fast repeated beat, with an artist talking, and not singing.

When we think of POP music we think of soft, trendy young adults smoothly singing a story, or an event. Words that have been carefully thought up, words that are nice, and won’t offend a fly. Again the beat can be slow or fast, and is usually repeated, but this time the group or solo sing.

Last week rappers were told to tune down their music. They were told to sing about nicer things, in a nicer way, to improve the way they dress, and to think about what their videos looked like (no half naked women in beds or hard men fighting. Also no ‘killings’ or weapons).

Eminem, Snoop Dog, and Dr.Dre spring to mind.

This little ‘rule’ sounds like a load of pap, to put it frankly. Rap is rap because of its topics, its swearing, and its main appearance. Imagine if Eminem walked onto the stage in trendy Nike 3-quarter length trousers, and a nice tight t-shirt, carrying not a chain-saw, but a guitar or even a teddy bear, and he sang a song about love.

No!

This is the kinda stuff that pop bands do! If rap was like this, then it would be called pop, and not rap. Telling rappers to play nice is like telling the WWF to fight cleanly, it just wouldn’t work, and the industry would take a major tumbling due to this.

I think those people in America (the AMI or something) should think again. If they want to detonate a bomb right it the main reactor of rap, destroying it, then so be it. If they want to create a pop 2, then so be it. But what they’re going on about is a load of nonsense, and it should stop right now. The fate of Rap is at steak here.
