All this "Vote for me!" and Notable campaigns showed me that we've sort of lost the point.

It's not a popularity contest or an attempt to get as many votes as possible. It's simply a way of chosing who would make a good notable.

Grix, FM, Ant, Sniper and Meka were all notables even before they have their name in golden writing.

Grix is famous as everyone knows him, he's got a unique name, he has that gimmick with the brain and didn't need his name in gold to be well known.

Ant, along with Wookie and SSX Pro, is a vocal PS2 owner. Get's along with most people fine even though he constantly tries to argue against the slagging the PS2 deserves...

He's also got the gimick of liking sugar which started when an army of ants raiding the Gaming_Guru's kitchen back in November.

Fantasy Meister is pretty famous here too. Good posts, got sick of the PS2, will never go near a Nintendo as long as he lives so is hoping that the Xbox will give him his gaming needs. Has been around here so much lately. Spends more time on Planetarion these days (like I do!)

Sniper is famous for being Cynical, moody and in the stories, prone to various types of death.

Meka writes plenty of good stuff and is famous for winning Gameaday hundreds of times (well, about 10 times anyway).

These people were notable and recognisable before notable status. Infact, that's why they got notable status in the first place.

A few regulars who are also notable are:

Dan2K1 - the last surviving DC fan. Famous for giant reviews and posts about Sega. People still get me mixed up with him...

Tony and Ali - People who work for SR. Everyone gets to know them pretty quickly.

Er-no - got his claim to fame the bad way - got banned. Still pretty well known because of it. We also support him in these harsh times as Eidos put him on the devellopment team for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 2

Most of the rest of us (including me don't) stand out much. Not really notable material as a result. That's nothing wrong. It's fine being a normal regular like most of us but if you do want to be notable then you have to be bot special and unique.

I don't know who then new notable is but I hope they'll be the part rather than just winners of some election campaign.

Notables are gamers who you can trust, they've been around for some time and won gameaday a few times because they know what theyre talking about. They know that theyre not going to win Gameaday by posting useless topics, so they dont. Theyre there to set an example to newbies, and regulars to follow.

My point is there's no point in election campaigns.

If you're notable material then you don't need to say so, people will just vote for you.

If you're not then never mind.

As for what Notables are there for, it wasn't to stop Newbie bullying (Grix might be newbie friendly now but back when the Notables were chosen...)

They are notable characters in the forum. It was sort of a way to show newbies that so they had an idea of who is who.

I may not be well known and I am not be liked by anyone but notables are well respected, talented, thoughtful members who are extremly popular with almost everyone because they got voted. This is my view anyway.
