THey're both laptops, and both cost £1100.

The first one is a Compaq 3.0GHz Intel Pentium 4
800 Mhz FSB
512 Kb Cache
512Mb RAM
60Gb Hard Drive
DVD Rewriter & CD Writer
15" XGA TFT Display
128Mb ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP (is this graphics card any good?)

The Second is a Sony 2.8Ghz, 40Gb HD, 512 Ram, similar 128Mb Graphics card, but it has a better widescreen monitor (I think it's an x-black one, but not sure), and importantly to me, it has a dual-layer dvd rewriter. So I think that means each DVD can hold about 9Gb of data, right?

Which should I get? Also, will it play new games well enough?

I didn't ask for you to reply. I asked for you to shut up.
You and I are very much alike, Adrian. The Internet is our religion, yet we have both fallen from the pure faith. Our methods have not differed as much as you pretend. I am but a shadowy reflection of you. It would take only a nudge to make you like me. To push you out of the light.

Typo for powerfull, one extra l. Well one guy on here was asking about a laptop and moving it between his room and his brothers, so sorry if thats not you.

I know it has a great screen as I have seen one running all day long for the past few weeks.

Also all laptops are portable, ok its 17" widescreen but its easily put into a bag and carried to another location just as easily as a smaller laptop.

All I am saying is the laptop a damn good machine because it has a good quality big screen, fast 64bit CPU, damn good graphics card etc. It looks nice but its just a nice looking machine. £1100 is your budget, so yes £1250 is a bit more than that but look at the other Evesham models, such as the X5 which is a 15.4" widescreen Centrino model that is in your budget.

What planet are you on?

Do I look like I can afford a 17inch screen?

How is the 17 inch screen more portable?

Why does anyone care if the laptop 'looks nice'?

What the hell is 'powerfull'?

How do you know it has a great screen, when the industry recognises that Sony's x-black screen is as good as laptops get?

Why include that 'all laptops are portable' comment?

How the hell do you know I'm only gonna be moving it between my room and my brothers?

Since when do I have a brother?

What the **** have you been smoking, daddy-o?

All laptops are portable, your only going to be moving it between your room and your brother. The 17" laptop looks nice yes, but its very powerfull and has a great screen, plus its easily portable.

Actually they may have forgotten to test that PC's OS and so anything else that was wrong with it would have been missed too.
I mean, I used to work in a sausage roll factory, and I used to put in 1 sausage roll in a 2 pack all the time, and they got packed into boxes immediately after.

BTW, I can't afford £1250, the maximum is £1100.
I went to Currys but they seem to have stopped stocking that Sony one. It did have an x-black screen, but didn't have dual layer dvd: some monkey made a typo when writing the Currys magazine. Also, it NEEDS portability. Why the **** else would I buy a laptop, because they look nice?!

Hard to believe the hard-drive story considering all PCs are installed with a OS and are tested before they leave the warehouse. So having no hard-drive would be pretty damn impossible.

Evesham Technology.
They are not that well rated, everytime I have had to return something though they have been great.

Although when i was returning something once, a bloke infront of me was having a go at a salesperson because the system he bought a few days earlier came with no hard-drive or monitor.
