Maybe, some Dutch guy on the Ubi boards seems to think so.

Apparently it's been announced in the latest Official Xbox Magazine in Holland. He also posted a few screenshots.

It's either an elaborate hoax by some net nerd, or very good news.

Oh and I also noticed that OXM have Chaos Theory on the cover for the next issue, hopefully fingers crossed that'll be the big announcement...I'll try not to get too hopefull though as it's probably just some geek fecking around.

I hope so. I remember Gamestation commenting how the fast development time for the game given its original release date didn't bode well for any real improvements.

You obviously haven't read the previews.

The game's gonna have multiple routes in single player allowing you to have a shedload more freedom than in previous games. There's also gonna be side missions that you can choose to do or just ignore, apparently you'll be able to approach the levels pretty much how you want to. With th new AI as well it should be one hell of a game, no longer will you have retarded enemies whosearch for 10 seconds then return to their normal patrol routes, these feckers will pursue you around the whole level and then some.

Hrmm, seems that someone else seems to have read that OXM issue as well. Taken from that very same thread:

"I have the Official Xbox Magazine - USA edition and I can CONFIRM THAT SPY VS. MERC IS IN THE GAME!!! And those screens are real.

Oh, and a few little tidbits from scanning the article (I didn't read the whole thing):

- Spy vs. Merc mode is running off an altered version of the Pandora Tomorrow engine, NOT the Splinter Cell 3 engine.

- No knife in Spy vs. Merc mode.

- IN co-op mode online, you can SAVE CHECKPOINTS and next time you log on, tou can start right where you started, but it has to be the same person you were playing with before. When you logon, an invite will automatically be sent to your partner.

- The reason why there were only 2 downloadable PT maps was because when Shanghai finished those, they immediately started work on the Chaos Theory Spy vs. Merc mode"

If that's true, then hoorah. But still, those shots look suspiciously like they're using Pandora graphics. However, that second shot with the merc being pulled over the rail looks very cool.

Cobblers to that. How about a Splinter Cell 3 game that is as open as Thief and doesn't have you wondering which doors are permanently sealed and which aren't.
