Basically NTL are gay, so I need to get a BT phone line and a broadband sorted pretty soonish. I'll only need it until July next year though, so not that long.

BT line I'll be able to sort out tonight, but I don't know what BB provider to go with, Freeola only have a 3 month contract but what are the 'hidden' costs? Pipex have a 1 month contract but it's a £70 fee if you quit before 12 months so it's pretty pricey.

I'm all confuslerised, who's good for short term stuff?

There's gonna be 5 computers linked up to it too, 1MB should be fine unless we all download porn at the same time...

Help?

Thanks.

I've just gone onto Broadband and I couldn't find any provider who had less than 12 months minimum contract. It may be the cheapest deal will be to just get a 12 month minimum one and keep paying until November next year instead of paying a penalty to quit earlier.

When I read the T&C's I can see:
"14. Cancellation after your broadband connection is activated or migrated: After the minimum term of 3 months you may cancel your connection or request a Migration Access Code to facilitate migration to another provider by using our official Broadband Cancellation/Migration Request Form."

Only 3 months so not a problem.

NB. I'm a Freeola BB user and it works well for me. I chose Freeola so that I could make use of their website hosting without having to reconnect to get access. Suits me and my clients are all impressed by the registration and hosting costs - i.e. Under £20 for two years for a co.uk.

I've seen them, there's nothing.

Therefore there's no minimum contract and no cancellation fees. You got yourself a customer then, I'm gonna quote that there's nothing in these terms when I phone up and see what I get.

Just remembered how much 30gb really is so logged on to say so!

I'll probably go with Freeola then if there's no silly fees, but I'll ring them and sort it all out. Will I need microfilters and stuff too?

This is all new to me, I'm using my mobile to get onto the net at the moment too! Thank God my O2 account is broken and I don't get charged for my Internet usage!!

If you think about usage sensibly, basically 30 gb only applies to 20 days of the month, between 8am-10pm. Now I download as much as any other 20-something male, and I wouldn't be troubled by this at all.

Do all your big downloads overnight (up to 10gb per night) because lets face it, downloading gigs of data during the day while 5 people want to use the internet might not do you any favours with your mates- you'll still be able to download well over a gig of stuff during the day anyway (which equates to something like 5,000 webpages).

If you have an ADSL modem or router, there are no extra costs, if not, Freeola will be able to sell you one at a very very good price. (Something in the region of £15). I've got to say Freeola's current deal is very flexible and if I could get ADSL, I would have it myself. Unfortunately I live somewhere close to the end of the earth/time so it's not possible (thank god for wireless internet).

£282 - Pipex 2mb
£239 - Pipex 1mb
£203 - Freeola 1mb Uncapped. (+ any other signup/cancellation charges.

This is how much it will cost us (inc. fees, not including spesh offers) for 7 months. If someone from Freeola wants to confirm that there's no hidden costs for cancellation or joining up then Freeola may have a customer.

I'm thinking Freeola might be a good option in this case then. We'll go for the 300gb package as 30gb for 5 people is too low.

What are your cancellation/setup charges and stuff like that? If you sound good you've got yourself a customer until July next year!

......

"MAX TARIFFS offer a lower monthly fee for a fast speed but are subject to usage limits of 3 GB (at all times) or 30/300 GB (peak/off-peak) per month. Peak hours are defined as Monday to Friday 8am to 10pm."

So I can only use 30gb during peak times?...

So confusing, grrrr.

Almost as bad as charging £12 to transfer a domain! ;-)

We won't be going back to Pipex so I'm gonna lose that money, I think it was £50+£20 if I took a free modem or something...

Oh god, setup charges too. Do they provide us with everything? We've got the wireless network point.

Freeola doesn't, plus the 3 month trial is on at the moment, you could get the 30/300GB cap (more than enough for 99.9% of people) for £14.99 per month (max speed 2 Mb). 3 Months is the minimum, but if you back out early I believe they will just charge you what you owe for those 3 months - could work out pretty well for your situation.

Cancellation fees are a bit backhand aren't they :/ tut tut pipex.
