Now i know for a fact that the Dreamcast didn't go out of production because of its bad games or loadings time etc. The main reason for the DC dropping out was in my view because of the lousy release date it possessed. Sega must have had a vague idea of the consoles release date like the Ps2, eXbox (joke) and Gamecube but I think they went a bit wrong releasing their console two years before the others. The ps2 was a bit weird being released at a date before the Gamecube and Xbox and at a higher price. Now most people thought they would wait as the hype over the next generation consoles was building and no one could wait.
The ps2 came out and didn't really seem that amazing or like any game could come out like I feel about the Gamecube where Nintendo could pull anything off. The ps2 felt predictable and didn’t seem at first like it was really going to do much at all. I think the way that the Dreamcast came out at the same time as the Psone was a big mistake and Sega realized that and knew that there wasn’t much they could do about it.
This is becoming more and more common with console release dates actually deciding the fate of the console altogether but is it a good or bad… I think 10 years ago the main aim of the console wars was to make first-rate games and that’s how you ‘won’ the war at the time. Back then people were more grateful of their games and didn’t mind what they got as long as it gave hours of quality play and fun. Now people seem to be less grateful of gaming as it has got so common in the market at this day and age.
I think the route to a successful console is definitely to release it at relatively the same time as another hit console too. This way people will consider yours more and actually buy it for the games and not the timing it is produced at. Since people have got more in-patients it makes it more difficult for the companies to make such quality games and try to win the console war too.
Well hopefully the market will come back to just GAMES and not the hype, timing etc we see in this crazy world today.
Cheers

Lets hope that is true for Nintendos sake, because we know Nintendo dont have the cash to beat Microsofts add campaign. Hopefully the fact that both the X-box and Gamecube are released within 3 days of each other in the US will mean computer magazines will have to critically review both machines to make a fair comparison. Hopefully consumers will then buy the machine with the best games and not the machine with the biggest advertising budget.
What will be exciting for me will be the event of having Game Demos on coverdiscs for the Nintendo Gamecube, a luxury that Playstation owners have had for many years.
