There's a bird in my garden eating one of our local pigeons. I think it's a hawk, or an eagle or something - looks like one of those ones they put the hood on and make it fly between medieval warrior's arms for scraps. Got some pictures, just uploading...nothing gory, I'd really like to know what sort of bird this is.

Not very good quality as I had to zoom in, but you can make out the shape and colours, which I'm sure means something to someone.

In that second on it looks like it had one of those little hoods on, but it wouldn't wear one, no matter how hard I chased it.

I heard a giant thud against my window once, like a big stone hitting it.
I went outside and there was a dead sparrowhawk on the ground.

It'd obviously been chasing a bird which flew vertically up at the last moment and the sparrowhawk, diving like a missle of some sort hit the window.

Like a looney tunes cartoon or soemthing but with real animals.

Shame really, it was one of a pair of pigeons that have nested in our garden for years and had three baby pigeons last year. They're all squawking now. I hope this hawk doesn't takeover this area and feed on local animals - the cat used to get picked on by the pigeons!

Oh well, circle of life and all that.

Well considering a live on the edge of the green belt where there's a hell of a lot of birds of prey, and the fact that no "pikey" would come near my house (because my older brother is their king or soemthing), I think the former is more likely.

Lots of bats live in my next door neighbours tree.
If you go just after dark and it's still dry and not ice cold (which is likely) then you can see them all flying overhead, barely two metres above my head.

It's cool.

Yeah, off topic and unprovoked but it's cool.

May I suggest... http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews5353.html

For the birds, not the cat!

I have one - it's quite accurate.

(And I'm only kidding about shooting birds... it's not big or clever, and it doesn't make you feel like a man... in fact it makes you feel quite sick. I have a metal 'duck shoot' pellet trap.)

Nah, I could never hurt an animal (not that you suggested I should).
