How can I have had an iPod for so long and yet know so little about them?

Since I updated iTunes to the latest version it's not recognising when my iPod is plugged in.

All the wires are working, it charges as normal, but iTunes doesn't recognise that it's there - quite a problem when you want to add music.

What's the crack, anyone know?

iTunes is utter crap. Yes sorry MoJo for useless input but it needed to be said.

So, er... there's no quick fix? Damn iTunes.

Not bothered about losing all the music, it's about 20 gig worth but all the music I want on it is in a few select folders, it'd take a while but would be no hassle to get it all back on.

It's risky and therefore stupid, but it might be zainy enough to work:

Format to another friends computer so it links to theirs.

Then re-format it to yours, as the computer will recognise it and want to format it.

If you win, it's fine. If you lose, you lose your music and haven't got anywhere.

I know a huge lot of people who have had a computer for ten years or more and know very very little about them.

It's not just iPods!

Tried the other day too and it didn't work. Had to restore it using the ipod software and try again which worked.
Pain though as I had to add all 4000+ songs again so it took a while.
