"In affectionate remembrance of English cricket which died at The Oval, 29th August, 1882. Deeply lamented by a large circle of sorrowing friends and acquaintances, RIP. NB The body will be cremated and the Ashes taken to Australia."
I am no cricket fan but I must say that we all enjoyed it at this house, well done lads on getting the ashes. Does anybody know what the ashes really are, I did not know what they were until the lads won them back and my husband knew and he was born in an other country, so wondered how many people know the answer to this question.

It's pointless in the same way that all sports are pointless. And I don't see what the problem with people celebrating the Ashes is. Just because they don't watch every game of cricket ever doesn't mean that they can't enjoy what they do watch. The Ashes was fantastic entertainment, although obviously not everyone likes it, like with any sport.
Oh hang on, motor-racing and golf.
