I am definitely taking Maths and English Language, as they're easy, and useful.
Basically, I am now unsure which Science(s) to take with them.
The options are:
Chemistry and Biology (both well-respected, but possibly too tough to do both and two other A-Levels.
Just Chemistry with the other two, as, whilst it is hard, it is apparently very well-respected, and I'll be able to focus solely on it from a Science point of view.
Just Physics, as it is the only Science I got an A at for GCSE (got B's for Biology and Chemistry). unfortunately, it's my least favourite of the Sciences, but I seem to do well in all exams in it, without really studying very much. It also combines well with Maths.
I'm currently looking at a career in Law at the moment, and Uni's seem to just want core stuff really, so they can teach the Law course from scratch. This means that it doesn't really matter which one of these I take, as I'm guaranteed to have Maths, English and a Science, but obviously I'd like the best grades possible, whatever I take.
Opinions would be useful, thankee.
I was wrong though, the "soft-touch" teacher has retired, to be replaced by heil-Hitler the bowler clown.
However in terms of the course itself, it's basically just learning some endings, background and a small-ish list of words
If it wasn't so tedious and boring it would be a dawdle, but that's perhaps why there's no coursework. I would do it for A-Level but I'd be swinging from the rafters after a few months
> Yeah, like we know what's best for you.
Damn right we do.
Also ... wouldn't Latin be of most use for doing Law? I don't see how German could come in too handy.
As for Maths, I'm told I should be aiming towards an A/A * but it's not a subject I've ever found very enjoyable, I can't stand more than 10 minutes of talk. Never listening means learning the formulae in my own time, which isn't helpful. It's a subject I always seem to come down on in tests
As for continuing a Science, Chemistry is hard because it's both mind-numbingly boring and I can't really separate equations (although recently I've been getting good marks) and Physics is far too Mathematical for me. I like Biology because I find it both easy and relatively enjoyable (especially the Natural world)
A foreign language (such as German, which I take) is supposed to be good for doing Law
You must of had a really poor Media course/teacher/everything then, as I found it to be very interesting.
The reason why it's so low?
Coursework.
Never put any effort in, couldn't be bothered with it.
Media Studies comes out on top.
It's extremely easy, you just write a load of essays throughout the year and watch films.
"Easy" subjects sound great on paper, but when you do two years of the stuff, it gets incredibly mundane.
English is boring - I didn't take it, but my friends did and they all come back wanting to kill themselves as it is vaguely more interesting than the lessons. Same with Business & Economics. Boredom high!
Maths is the easiest in lessons terms. The maths is more applied. This makes you understand why you are doing it and has many interesting applications. Only a C though.
Physics is fun when/if you study particle physics and light. The rest is a little boring, but you can go far just learning the equations. I got a B.
Whatever you chooses, make sure you enjoy the subject and want to do it. It's you who has got to study it for two years. I hope you make the right choice.
You really should do at least one non-academic subject if you want to survive 2 years of college, and not get bored to death. And you do need to put the effort in - there's no punishment for not doing the work most of the time, so you really need to be bothered about it.
And it's a big part of what college is actually about - trying something new that you wouldn't have been able to do at school. You'll be missing out otherwise.
