These annoy me, because I'd rather wait and buy a 360 with one of these for when I get my own place and a HDTV.

Damn Microsoft, looks like I'm waiting until after release for mine now.

They may have it in later Xboxes to push the price back up, because some people buy the most expensive thing assuming it's the best due to the price.

This would make the 360 more expensive and cheaper than the PS3 at the same time catering for those after a cheap console and those who buy the most expensive console because it's "the best".

Well transmissions won't happen until 2008, with the exception of SkyHD+, launching next year. I'd guess HD-DVD's will launch in 2008 too, but who knows, what with all the HD-Ready TV's out now, they may have to release something much sooner to cater for the early adopters - which are fast growing in number.

From experience with the PS2, the lowest quality media which goes into the drive is the actual PS2 games themselves , especially the Blue backed CD-Roms.

I'd rather just get a separate HD-DVD player anyway.

I don't like running anything but games on my consoles (with the small exception of ripping CDs) just incase some low-quality media trashes the drive.

Yeah, the HD-DVD drives wont be used by the games, just to play HD-DVDs.

I guess I'll have to look into when the first HD-DVD is expected to be released in the UK because I'd rather my 360 was a digital media hub and HD-DVD be included so I don't need to buy a stereo, dvd players etc. when I move out of my parents:D.

The standard launch games are gonna support Hi-Def anyway - apparently it's not all that necessary to utilise HD-DVD, which is why they didn't.

First thing I'm going to do is try out both Standard and High Definition and see if it's for real. The Xbox will hopefully be staying in the lounge anway, so it'll be permanently connected via HD.

And if they do decide to stick HD Drives in the later batches, I hope they're going to compensate those of us buying a launch machine with a pansy DVD Drive...
