If you lose your passport?

I haven't lost it, somebody else lost theirs - are they gonna get the bailiffs knocking on their door telling them they're suddenly £10,000 in debt?

If the passport office know then, if anyone is found using it illegally, they'll know it isn't you('re friend), and everything will be fine.

But yeah, any time you need to use your passport for identity, you need the passport number, which is then verified against the database. If the number comes up as a stolen/lost passport then obviously the person trying to use it will be investigated by the police.

Some kid may use it as a fake ID having changed the photo, but I doubt if anything more then that would happen.

As has been said. Let the passport office know.

Well, like you said, if somebody steals it - identity theft and all that balls.

Well if they don't go out of the country not having your passport is pretty much the same as having it, isn't it? Unles obviously someone steals it and uses it.

All they need to do is go to the passport office and tell them that they've lost it, they'll strike the old one off the records and give them a new one. Why would there be any bailiffs involved?

Yeah so we've had the generic a-hole response, now anybody care to give a serious answer?
