You'll have to pay for Aftermath, it's a full blown expansion and I think EA will be distributing it.
However, Valve are releasing a new episode of Half Life 2 for free called The Lost Coast which showcases some amazing lighting effects. You'll only be able to get it if you computer is up to the task of running it though.

It's 30 seconds long, filled by that rank looking woman, and darkness, and at the end she goes "there's no need to worry!" and then some bell voice goes "we'll see!" and that's it.
