A good example of a good British actor is Anthony Hopkins, he is world famous for his role of Hannibal Lector in 'Silence of the Lambs' and 'Hannibal'. He is now living in America enjoying his fortune and populatity worldwide.
Directors have also became outstanding, many British directors pften move to America to seek fortune, as they search for a good movie that could be directed.
Ridley Scott our British hero, is probably the best example of a great British director. Over the years he has worked with people like Harrison Ford (Blade Runner), Russell Crowe (Gladiator) and Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal).
There might not be many good British films being released lately, but I think this is because we are not well known for spending millions of pounds on movies.
If we are not well known for our films, then atleast we are well known for our great actors, actresses and directors.

He's not exactly nice is he? I think he'd the idiot. This is not the way to make friends Michael.
There's another two for the pot.
Nowadays, even American stars are trying to perfect the British accents, but there is still the English backlash in the storylines, from the on screen fighting: Braveheart and The Patriot among others, to the American 'bending' of history in films such as U571 and again in The Patriot.
So while films are all being made over here (or not, depending on the strike!) the storylines are not always reflecting Holywood's 'love' for England. It's time this got turned around and we had some decent English historical films. A remake of Henry 5th perhaps, or perhaps giving the Americans a taste of their own medicine, by doing a film based on the American Civil war, showing how slaves were treated and how bad some of the Americans really were.
Perhaps we could have a film based on the Vietnam war, but this time totally from the point of view of the Vietnamese. That would be interesting.
