I'm considering buying the third but I'm afraid it'll turn out crap just like everyone says. I'm even afraid that it'll make me like the originals less.
Is it worth seeing just to watch the last film in the trilogy and see what happens to Mikey or should I just pretend that it never existed?
Godfather? No film could live up to the hype, and like someone watching Star Wars now for the first time, I couldn't see what the fuss was about. Granted I only watched them once each and actually enjoyed Godfather part 3 more than the others (yeah I know, but I'm the guy who likes Armageddon, my taste is strange) but they didn't wow me the way Goodfellas and Casino did the first time I watched them.
Not as bad as Once Upon A Time In America though, blimey I nearly died watching that! I'll watch them all again some day (including Once Upon A Time In America) and probably enjoy them more.
After all, some of my favourite films now I either disliked or thought "meh" when I first saw them (including Armageddon, I hated it too, and in Spider-Man's case it took about five viewings before I thought "Wow, this is fantastic")
I don't really consider Reservoir Dogs to be a gangster film, more a bank heist.
That's most of my gangster collection. Next on my list will probably be Donnie Brasco.
Other similar films worth watching are 'Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead', 'Boyz N' The Hood' (this is far away from the usual mafia settings but it's so good I thought it deserved a mention) and the TV series 'The Sopranos'.
Again ... one day

Scarface is the one of the best gangster films ever. It has to be watched just to see Tony and his "lil frien" murdering an army of people at the end.
