Right, this is something that's bothered me for a while. I know little about 12 strings other than that they have 12 strings and how to differentiate between the sound of 6 & 12 string guitars but ... How the hell do you play one of these?
Are all the strings on the same neck? What's the standard tuning for them, are the strings double tuned? Do you play it like a normal 6 string but only strumming the bottom/top 6 strings? How do you play barre chords? What's the standard range of the notes?

Just treat the pairs of two strings as a single string and play it like a normal 6 string :0)
It takes a bit of getting used too, my dad used to have one but I found it too strange to play.

Its pretty much the same as a normal guitar tuning, except each strings is paired with another, so the strings are in 6 groups of two. The bottom three are paired with a string thats tuned an octave above, and the top three strings are paired with an identical string.
So if a normal guitar is tuned:
E1 A1 D2 G2 B2 e3
A twelve string is tuned:
E1 E 1 A1 A2 G2 G3 G2 G2 B2 B2 E3 E3
The number being the octave.

Heh, I had the chance to play one of these once. Not for long though.. It seemed really wierd to play after using 6 strings, but I guess that would be expected. :)
Dunno about your questions, but I would be interested to know about the tuning and stuff. Can't remember much about it since when I played one, it was soo long ago.
