Every copy has to be validated from now on. Pirated copies can be returned for a free copy (as long as you can indentify the source), and naughty people caught with a copy can get the genuine product for a reduced price.
I think that's pretty decent. I'm sure MS don't need the money, but they could just block any pirated copies completely if they wanted. And I thought XP upwards had to be validated anyway?
But i do think it's nice of them to offer a reduced price version and i for one would have thought that a few pirates will shell out for it now.
I can remember when people were like "Noo! You have to register XP over the internet, what will i do now?!" didnt take long for people to make cracks and keygens.
It's going ot get worse with Vista
And anyway, Microsoft state they'll check for genuine copies, but there are always ways around it. I can't see them winning software piracy, it's too big of an issue to tackle.
