Is it possible to learn to sing? With practice and proper teaching techniques?
If you have never been able to sing, decently, will you ever be able to?

Or is it a born ability?

Only in the studio. We needed a falsetto chorus for backing, so all 4 of us got loaded on tequila and recorded it at 2am. Sounded ok actually, was most surprised.
But not onstage, singing drummers are a no-no.

I've tried out for a band before and have sung on stage a few times.

I was the singer in a band for about three years (I say a band, it was more a songwriting/studio-group thing). Started off sounding like a Boyzone reject, but ended quite good. Did a couple of gigs at one point, which went well but I didn't enjoy - that's when I realized performing wasn't for me.

"Band's" a bit of a loose term then :-)

Umm... I know the bloke who opened for the Manics at the Millenium Stadium quite well... Does that count? :-D

Yeah I'm in a band - I have sang quite a lot in front of large crowds, and we're hoping to pick up soon. Just need to find a bassist and a drummer, heh - they are very, very rare in our area! :S

Out of interest, how many people here are singers or have sung in front of people? I don't mean once at an Xmas party in front of family, I mean on a regular basis to crowds of strangers?

It also can be a born ability though. If you were born into a naturally musical family, then you could inherit this.

Just like anything really, you can learn to be good at it from scratch but to be great you have to have a raw, natural ability.
