"Scientists believe they may have found a way to ward off heart failure associated with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).

Many people with DMD die in their 20s because their heart weakens and fails.

The experimental drug works as a chemical sticking plaster and strengthens heart muscle cells, making them less likely to break under strain.

Although the drug was tested in mice, the University of Michigan authors told Nature it may also work in humans."

This is, in my humble opinion, ****ing excellent news. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4685609.stm for the full article.

Of course, if everyone would sacrifice a woman and an apple, and get friendly with a priest, god would probably fix them all up.

Unless they were popes.

Attention seeker Timmargh.

In other news, have the scentists found a cream or spray to reduce the size of your swolen sense of self-importance?

Read the article sounds good, but it also sounds like it's no where near ready to be used on humans long term because not enough safty information has been produced.

Unfortunatly that means it could be quite a few years yet :(

At least all the mice with DMD will survive :D until they get disected to find out what the effects were.

A fair amount, but obviously the life-threatening ones are getting more attention.

Most forms of MD, including mine, are down to faulty genes; so if they can permanently alter the specific gene then yes: it is reversible. But, until then ...

I have a friend who has a hole in his heart. He has to take a drug to make the hole grow smaller.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Many thanks!!
