I watched this last night.

Overall impressions, pretty good, but the plot was incredibly flawed.

Although I did not understand one bit of it....

*SPOILER*

Why did all the aliens die at the end? There was no real explanation why they were all shutting down, it all happened so quickly.

Thanks

Yeah come to think of it, one of the Martians might well have drank a little water. As for the bloke stuck with a needle though, he gets sprayed around as fertilizer for the red weed.

Morgan Freeman tells you at the end. If you need more than that, forget watching movies, and go back to reading Spot the dog.

Effects of an EMP

Although the electric field created from an EMP lasts for only a short time, its effects can be devastating. It is predicted that a single high altitude burst 200 miles above Kansas could propagate an EMP enveloping the entire United States. Electrical systems connected to things that can conduct current like wires, antennas, and metal objects will suffer significant damage. EMP effects on electronics include interference of radio frequency links, irreparable damage to microcircuits, and even the disabling of satellites. Fortunately, electronic equipment that is turned off is less likely to be damaged.

I'm still not buying the fact that he happened to have it turned off, and it still worked :P

Exactly what I thought. Tho I remember seeing the effects of an EMP on a PC on one of those Jeremy Clarkson programs. The computer still turned on, but didnt boot or anything, methinks the Bios had been wiped or something. There's no way that camera would work, nor the radio in the car :P

The camcorder wouldn't work even with new batteries. EMP screws up any computing components so with a modern camera like that, it would be fried. Power could still be supplied and you'd be able to turn it on, but it would be useless due to the computing components being basically wiped. Same for the car, unless it doesn't rely on any computers.

It is a movie of course...

You see the guy get stuck with a big needle outside the basement and his blood sucked up through a tube as well.
