Conclusion - like a lot of things it's a pile of fuss over nothing.
Oh, and some of the ratings seem a bit lenient. Terminator 3 got a 12A, when it had several counts of the "F word", not to mention someone getting a hand punched through their stomach in rather grisly detail.
And it's also opened the floodgates for film producers to cut stuff out of films to get it to pass at a 12A rating, which sucks. These idiotic producers who insist that story be sacrified for cash should be lined up and shot by the dozen.

First eighteen: Die Hard

But they hadn't moved the rating over to video by that point so the video became a 15.
