"East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In case of Emergency (ICE)" campaign with the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston and in association with Vodafone's annual life savers award.

The idea is that you store the word "ICE" in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency". In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them.

It's so simple - everyone can do it. Please do. It really could save your life."

Facial tattoos with phone numbers on could be a better alternative.

QotD.

:D

It's not completely useless, because they could require a medical history or allergies quickly so they can administer some drugs. Or just contact your favorite person straight away, instead of your dad who you might have fallen out with.

Limited use, but use none the less.

In conclusion, what a load of pointless crap.

And how could this "save your life"? If I'm already with the ambulance and hospital folk, what difference would phoning my parents make?

"quickly find out"

ie

fumble about with a phone and, after eventually figuring out what buttons do what, stumbling across the right number

not to mention if the phone is PIN protected

If they're really gonna look through my phonebook, isn't "Home" enough?

Surely people have stuff like that in already, not just 'generic drinking pal #06'
