Actually, that's not entirely true - it's just the rest of the world's perception of British films. And it's all Richard Curtis's fault. Took me until I re-watched Four Weddings on telly the other day to realise how much I actually loathe every single one of his movies - Notting Hill, Bridget Jones, Love Actually - every last one is awful and stars Hugh Grant as a bungling idiot.

If you actually watched Notting Hill and Love Actually then I'm not sure how much creedence I can give to your opinion man.
Except Blackadder was crap until Ben Elton began writing with him on it.
