You can get a modem for the PS2 for £40 now.

Anyway, HDDs don't make games any better, they just decrease loading times. I agree that the add-ons are expensive, but remember: It has come out over a year before the competition.

Sony have signed a deal with Telewest to use their Blueyonder cable modems for the PS2, I have this in my PC and every game pings between 30 and 40, without fluctuation. It goes even faster if you use blueyonders own games servers around 10, thats fast, my home network pings at 2 from my room to my brothers, so I think that you will be more than satisfied!!

Presumably you have some inside connections with all the developers. Otherwise, you don't know that.

By realistic I mean that theory that MS has been talking

Regardless of whether MS said that or not, it's bull. The same thing applies to all similar PC FPS titles too. Project IGI on the PC has enemies that disappear abruptly right before your eyes, not even bothering to 'fade out' gradually.

It's simply to do with processing power; if a game gives you the opportunity to kill lots of enemies in one place, they have to disappear. If they don't, then not only will it eventually have an adverse effect on game speed (remembering and rendering the bodies of all the dead enemies), but you would also find your passage through the game blocked by piles of dead bodies! Expect to see the same on X-Box.

Sony will know how many units have been sold and how many HDD and modems have been sold. So developers can say to Sony we want to us the HDD feature what is the percentage of users that have the HDD. If its a good figure they will develope the game using the HDD.

By the way hasn't any of you noticed that the PS2 is the only next gen system that launched without any internet support. Oh and also if these extras are £140 add £60 and you'll get a Gamecube which has a modem but no hard drive. Xbox has only 8Gb but with it, it makes the games more realistic and all the xbox launch tiles are using this extra feature. But for Ps2 the developers are in doubt whether the HDD will even sell and therefore they are not trying to use it though Im sure if used the games will be more realistic.

I dont know if ADSL will be supported as the connections are the 56k and broadband(Cable). ADSL and Cable operate differentally I think.

End of 2001.

That means that in total a PS2 really costs £440 making it the most expensive next-gen console, I,m not gonna get any of these extras if they cost this much. Instead I'm gonna get the xbox which has all of these for £300.

End of 2001.

These are all unconfirmed maybes, so don`t take it as certain. However, I feel it is likely.

Exhalent, I can play my PS2 online without ADSL/Cable Modem. Although by the time the modem is out I will probably have ADSL.
