ECW One Night Stand
Hammerstein Ballroom
Manhattan, New York (cheers, Kawada :0P)
June 12th, 2005

The old ECW announcer calls out Joey Styles, who gets a huge pop. The ECW set looks pretty accurate, the only discrepancy really being that WWE have used their expensive cameras. Styles starts with "Oh my god!" and welcomes the chanting fans to One Night Stand. Joey then introduces Mick Foley, who comes out to his WWE Cactus Jack theme with a Cactus Jack shirt on.

The intro video to the event plays, with some classic ECW footage.

We return from the promo to see some little kid in the audience as Lance Storm's theme hits. Storm came out with Dawn Marie, which was definitely a trip down memory lane for ECW marks everywhere. Jericho's WWE theme hits (damnit), and he comes out in some reminiscent ECW attire. Quite refreshing to hear him billed as "Lionheart".

1. Lance Storm vs Chris Jericho
My prediction: Lance Storm
Result: Lance Storm (7:24)
Match: Some great technical displays earlier on, and after Jericho dropkicks Storm out of the ring, he recieves a bunch of "Lionheart" chants. An amazing dropkick to the back of the head gets Jericho a "Holy ****" chant. We see a double feature, for perhaps the first time in ECW history. Some "Chris Candido!" chants follow also. Jericho has it over, but Dawn Marie distracts the ref. Then Justin Credible and Jason Knight come in and all hell breaks loose. Jericho gets shoved into Storm's cane and Storm rolls him up for the pin. Very good match, but far too short. 8/10.

Jericho leaves to "Lionheart" chants.

Foley and Styles discuss the match backstage, and talk about Raw and Smackdown's booking of some balcony seats.

Pitbull #1 Gary Wolfe talks about some of the deceased ECW wrestlers.

A video then airs of the deceased ECW wrestlers - Rocco Rock, Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy, Mike "Crash Holly" Lockwood, The Original Shiek, Mike Lozansky, Pitbull #2 Anthony Durante, Big Dick Dudley, and Chris Candido.

We return and the crowd chant for Candido. Tajiri comes out with Mikey Whipwreck and Sinister Minister. Little Guido then comes out with the FBI - J.G. Smith, Tracy Smothers, Big Guido and Tony Mamaluke, missing Sal E Graziano, though. Super Crazy then comes out, sporting a hair cut.

2. 3-Way Dance:
Yoshihiro Tajiri vs Little Guido vs Super Crazy

My prediction: Super Crazy
Result: Super Crazy (6:15)
Match: They leave the ring fairly quickly, and Super Crazy does an amazing moonsault off the balcony, taking down the entire FBI to "Holy ****" chants. Super Crazy punches Guido back in the ring on the corner and the crowd chant the numbers in Spanish. Mamaluke lifts up Tajiri whilst Guido is on the turnbuckle, and Tajiri gives Guido the Green Mist. Minister runs in and knocks Mamaluke down. Whipwreck hits a top-rope Whippersnapper on Guido and Tajiri eliminates him (4:10). Crazy goes for his patented 3 moonsaults, but on the third, Whipwreck knocks him off. He manages to finally get the moonsault on Tajiri and the win. Again, very exciting, far too short. 7/10.

A promo of some of ECW's greatest moments then airs.

We then return to the arena and zoom to the empty Raw and Smackdown seats.

We take a look outside the arena briefly.

Psychosis comes out and surprisingly removes his mask. Mysterio comes out, and I thought he was gonna take his mask off too, but he didn't.

3. Extreme Luchador Match:
Psychosis vs Rey Mysterio

My prediction: Psychosis
Result: Rey Mysterio (6:14)
Match: Psychosis seemed to be botching a lot of stuff early on. Still, he gets past this and hits a superb Psycho-Guillotine Leg-drop on the outside on the railings to the delight of the fans. Psychosis goes for a ram in the corner, but flies outside, over the railing and onto two female fans. They move when they see Mysterio go up-top. He nails a Plancha and in-ring hits a superb Hurricanrana for the win. Great, but too damn short! 7/10

JBL, Kurt Angle, Orlando Jordan, Carlito, Doug and Danny Basham show up to "You suck ****!" chants, amusingly, and take their seats. They also recieve "**** you Smackdown!" chants.

We quickly cut backstage to see Roadkill and Danny Doring, but it doesn't last long at all, strangely.

We see another few famous ECW moments.

"Weeeel, weeeeel, weeeeel" cues Joel Gurtner showing up. Kurt Angle steals his microphone and JBL pushes him out of their balcony. Angle berates fans, who shout "You suck ****", to which he amusingly replies "Your mother taught me how!". Angle says they'll beat up any wrestlers who step in the ECW ring. JBL takes the mic to "***hole!" and "Shut the **** up!" chants. RVD's music hits and he comes out with Bill Alfonso. JBL's microphone cuts out, and RVD comes out to cut his hyped promo to "RVD!" chants.

RVD talked about how he's happy he got to cut a promo, and said he's still the Whole ****ing Show, but it was censored. He says how upset he is he can't wrestle tonight, and then Rhino attacks him. The lights go out, and Sabu shows up, who's looking damn tired. The bell rings and the impromptu match begins.

4. Sabu vs Rhino
My prediction: Sabu
Result: Sabu (6:50)
Match: Insane match! The match goes all over the place, and the first ref gets knocked out. Sabu nails a chair-leg-drop on Rhino through a table to end the match. Not a great match, but featured the first table smash of the night (over an hour in!), and seeing Sabu again was great.

Al Snow argues with Head backstage, stating he invited the "Raw and Smackdown ***holes."

Another reminiscent promo airs.

Eric Bischoff, Edge, William Regal, Gene Snitzky, Tyson Tomko, Christian, Rob Conway, Maven and Coach show up. Some smart fan spits a cloud of beer at Bischoff.

Chris Benoit's WWE theme hits and he makes his way out to a huge pop. Out comes Eddie to a much lesser pop, and disappointingly, he adhered to his WWE character.

5. Chris Benoit vs Eddie Guerrero
My prediction: Chris Benoit
Result: Chris Benoit (10:37)
Match: A superb technical belt, and it actually went to distance too. Eddie gets busted open very early on. The crowd gave him a huge pop when he went for a Suicide Headbutt. Benoit manages to lock in the Crippler Crossface, and Eddie eventually taps. Very good match, highly technical. 8.5/10

The two face each other after the match, but disappointingly fade away for a Vengeance promo.

Gurtner returns and asks Bischoff for a job. Bischoff confirms with his laughing employees, as Bischoff insults Gurtner and the ECW fans. He says he wants to see no ECW fans at his Raw show.

We're back outside the Hammerstein Ballroom for a moment.

Mike Awesome's music hits and he comes out. Masato Tanaka then comes out.

6. Mike Awesome vs Masato Tanaka
My prediction: Mike Awesome
Result: Mike Awesome (9:51)
Match: Awesome gets a suicide dive on Tanaka within moments, and they're soon enough brawling in the crowd with chairs. Awesome then sets up a table and hits a superb Awesome Bomb through the table to satisfied "Holy ****!" chants. He goes for an Awesome Splash but gets a 2 count. Awesome hits Tanaka about a dozen times with the chair, but it does little to nothing. Tanaka botches his finisher (Diamond Dozen), but nails a Tornado DDT for surprisingly only a 2-count. He puts a chair on his face and hits him with another chair, and then jumps on those chairs. Masato nails a DDT through a table but STILL, Awesome kicks out! Awesome hits a top-rope Awesome Bomb through the remains of the table, and Masato kicks out! Awesome powerbombs Tanaka out of the ring through a table, dives into the wreckage and gets the fall. The crowd chant "This match rules!". Superb match, what the other 5 before it should've been. 9/10.

Awesome then powerbombs the referee and ECW officials help him backstage.

Joey and Mike thank the fans for buying the Rise and Fall DVD. The ECW theme hits and Joey Styles, confused, checks his format.

Bob Ortiz comes out, and then Paul Heyman makes his way out. He says he's not crying because of the fans chanting "Thank you Paul", but because he was smoking a joint with RVD. He thanks the fans, and says he has something to say to Bischoff. Paul Heyman berates Edge about the Matt Hardy situation, to "You screwed Matt!" and "We want Matt!" chants. Heyman says he has 2 words for Edge - "Matt Freakin' Hardy!" (3 words). Heyman says to JBL "The only reason you were the champ for a year is because Triple H didn't wanna work Tuesdays." He says "This is EC-****ing-W", and leaves to the delighted crowd. I was SO hoping Matt Hardy would show up.

For some reason, an advert for House of 1000 Corpses 2: The Devil's Rejects airs.

The Dudleys then come out. Tommy Dreamer follows with a remix of his "Man In The Box" entrance theme. The Sandman actually shows up with "Enter Sandman" booming out, downs a beer, bangs it on his head and cuts himself open. He hangs over the balcony as the crowd sing along to Metallica as he pours some beer into the mouths of fans below. He drinks his second eber and gets to the ring. He gives a beer to the executive producer of ECW, then pours beer over a woman's chest and drinks it off. We see Elektra in the crowd, and Sandman and Dreamer both pour beer onto her chest and drink it off. We see Chris Chetti and C.W. Anderson and Sandman drinks his third beer. The four guys bang knuckles, and the Blue World Order come out.

Stevie says they're taking over, and superkicks Sandman. All hell breaks loose. Kid Kash comes out, gets beaten up. Then Axl Rottena nd Balls Mahoney show up and beat the crap out of the bWo. Kid Kash hits an insane bump, hitting everyone except Tommy Dreamer, who is the launch pad. The match finally starts.

7. The Dudley Boyz vs Tommy Dreamer & Sandman
My prediction: Tommy Dreamer & Sandman
Result: The Dudley Boyz (10:14)
Match: Dreamer has a cheese greater, but Bubba uses it against him and skins him. Dreamer bleeds profusely. Bubba rubs the blood off of Dreamer and puts it on his own face. Sandman brings a ladder into play, and Dreamer uses the grater on Bubba. Dreamer takes someone's beer and splashes it over Bubba, before mercilessly bashing him with a cooking sheet. Bubba crotches Dreamer on the railings, whilst Sandman lays a ladder on D-Von and hits a Senton Bomb. D-Von misses on Sandman with the Singapore Cane and hits Bubba. Lance Storm and Justin Credible - the Impact Players - run back in and beat up Sandman and Dreamer. Credible hits That's Incredible on the Sandman on the barbed wire. Francine runs in and kicks Dreamer in the nuts! Beulah McGuillicuty runs in and rips Francine apart, before Credible attacks her, but Dreamer intervenes. Dreamer and Beulah embrace, and then hit Tandem DDTs on the Dudleys, who subsequently kick out. Dreamer puts a chair on D-Von's nuts and hits it with a cooking sheet. Cue Styles saying "He just hit him in the balls!". Sandman gets powerbombed through a table, and Dreamer gets hit with the 3D. Spike Dudley comes out! They get out some lighter fluid and set the table on fire! Dreamer's powerbombed through the flaming table and pinned for the win. Superb match! - 9/10

The Dudleyz grab Beulah, but Sandman runs in to save the day. Sandman is screaming for a beer, and canes Spike Dudley in the head. Stone Cold's music hits, and he says Sandman needs a case of beer. He invites everyone from ECW to come out for a beer bash. They all come out whilst Raw and Smackdown look on in awe. Austin says before they drink, he wants to see a fight. He invites the Raw and Smackdown guys down and takes a seat with a beer. The ECW and WWE guys form on different sides of the ring, ready to fight, and then Tazz comes out. Tazz and Angle start the fight, and basically both sides beat the crap out of each other. Tazz locks Angle in the Tazzmission to the delight of the crowd. Bischoff commentates and berates ECW. Austin puts on JBL's hat, and asks Foley to take Bischoff to the ring. Foley grabs him and drags him there. The Dudleys hit Bischoff with a 3D, Benoit hits him with a Diving Headbutt, Mysterio hits him with a 619. Austin asks Bischoff what he thought, and he said "**** ECW!". Austin Stunners Bischoff and the Dudleys throw him out of the ring and carry him back whilst the ECW guys drink in the ring. Bischoff is thrown out of the arena next to a dumpster, and Al Snow gives Head some beer. Joey Styles thanks the fans and Mysterio wears JBL's hat. Sandman and Austin raises arms as the PPV ends.

A Vengeance promo airs.

Bah to you :-D But there's no denying Sandman actually performs his character well. He's there to drink beer and swing singapore canes and just generally be hardcore, which he does very well. He's not there to be a technical god (as shown by that figure four leg lock :-D) he's hardcore to the fullest. He puts his body on the line virtually every match and that's why the fans cheer him. I'd much rather watch a Sandman match than a Batista one

And the uppercard considering at the moment that's consisting of people like HHH, Batista, Edge, JBL and Cena

Gah, you guys have said everything already. :)

Paul Heyman is a god damn legend. His attack on JBL, Edge and the WWE in general was indeed gold. Vince can't of seen all that coming.

YAAAAHHHH Super Crazy and Psicosis!! Real honour for the fans for him to take off his mask. I fully agree with the fans booing part of the match, Psicosis adopted a strange style and was botching all over the place. Still, the Pyscho-Guillotine was nice and so too was Rey Rey's dive.

Styles was great too, some of his one liners were as good as Heyman's - "...Thats even more worse than having to play Simon Dean on Live TV, Gah im fired already" Or something like that. Twas good anyway.

Sabu's appearance alone was pretty special and then to see a match with this guy in it was fantastic. The Arabian Skullcrusher baby!

Shame about the Storm, Jericho match. Way too short (As were most of the matches) and the ending was a bit.. well... not expected. It was the guys last match and it goes and ends with interference? Bah

Guerrero & Benoit's match lived up expectations and what about Awesome, Tanaka?! Jesus that was amazing, match of the night by far.

And the ending was... well.... crazy as expected. Nice to see Austin and his 'son of a b*tch' usual crap yay!

Awesome PPV, yet the credibility of the WWE has been seriously dented. Vince must be furious.

So The Sandman is a better wrestler than Batista? They cheer for him, and yet I would say he's less talented than a lot of the WWE roster.

I'm not discounting the fact that last night's event did show off some of the greatest talent in the world, certainly better than what the WWE's undercard offers right now, but there are some ECW guys that are also very popular (like Batista) but lack any real wrestling talent.

I'm assuming the 619 got booed because Mysterio created it in WCW?

totally. but it would've been so lame without him, you can bet that he was offered a deal he simply couldn't decline.

hehe, easy tiger, you'll have a stressed eric vein!
plus we both know trips would never do that, it'd be too quick an entrance.

absolutely, and did anyone else notice the FWA sign during this match? :)

once more, good luck Burchill.

if you're gonna go, go in style!
i did like JBL and Orlando doing their "bouncing cheque" mime though :D

not suprised after how stiff he was with blue meanie. opened up all those cuts from hardcore homecoming.
he also managed to squeeze in the phrase "damn mexicans" at the beginning... so not long to go and he'll have offended someone in every country on earth then, splendid.

Well firstly i've got to say it and get it out the way - i was wrong, that was the best damn PPV i've seen since Elix Skipper walked the cage and in terms of WWE stuff i can't even remember that far back to when they did anything that matched this, and this was even with only a hours worth of actual wrestling (maybe if they didn't bother with all this invasion crap we could have got some longer matches eh?) But then again i was thinking that Vince would pull rank but he didn't and it seemed to be a totally Heyman led PPV ....... how it should be.

Anyway onto my thoughts of the show and in typical ECW style this is going to be a shoot, no holding back now, telling you what i really think.

Joey Styles - you're the best damn commentator in the business and proved why if there was any sense in the world those 2 old crap artists JR and the King would be out on the scrapheap and you'd be doing the commentary on RAW ......... shame you're a damn sell out though. You slam Awesome for selling out those few years back yet here you are after criticising the WWE for years and telling all your readers you'd never work for them. Back on form though, reminded me of the old Styles, and here's a novel concept for a commentator - got all the moves and wrestlers right. You might want to try that sometime you BBQ sauce loving Oklahama fat piece of crap

Lance Storm vs Jericho - Great technical match (shove that up your Extremely Crappy Wrestling ass King, go f**k back off to Memphis you bloody pervert), but far too short. Jericho actually looked interested in a wrestling match for the first time in quite a while. Shame he used his walls of jericho instead of the lion tamer.

Nice to hear the Candido chants - they appreciate the good ones in ECW instead of cheering for no talent sh!te like Batista.

3 way dance - Yoshihiro Tajiri, Little Guido, Super Crazy - Marking out like mad for Super Crazy. Typical cruiserweight action the way it used to be done before Vince ruined it by deciding these matches are perfect opportunities to be cut short for boring ass promos. Plus of course ECW, the first company to promote Cruiserweight action in America, NOT WCW. Crazy going old school ECW with the balcony moonsault (just wouldn't be a ECW show without a Balcony spot) and of course the 10 count in Spanish - New Yorkers, the most creative crowd in all of the world bar none. Was glad to see Crazy win, of course now he's signed with the WWE that's the last time he'll be used in the correct way again. A career on Velocity awaits.

Psicosis vs Rey Mysterio - Very big tribute from Psicosis to remove his mask to the ECW fans i was very appreciative of that. The match was again too short, by the time Psicosis had stopped botching (i think the shirt or whatever it was wrapped around his waist affected his mobility), settled down and was getting into the match it was over. Couple of good spots with the Guillotine and the dive into the crowd from Rey. Nice booing on the 619 though :-D

Roadkill and Doring begin to do a promo and then of course the guys from Smackdown arrive, god forbid we should have a ECW PPV which is all ECW. a good 10 minutes wasted here which could have gone to the matches. Nice to see the quintessential stud muffin Gertner back again. Bradshaw does a shoot i believe, it's hard to tell what with him having HHH disease which makes all of his promos sound exactly alike. Oh and John, you couldn't bloody sell out a living room let alone an arena. Those tarps up in the upper decks of every arena Smackdown visits aren't there for safety. They're there because finally the casual fans are getting sick and tired of seeing kiss ass scum like you and Trips dominating shows when you don't even come close to having the talent, guts or soul as those that were representing ECW this night

Thankfully RVD cuts him off because it was getting tiresome. JBL has enough tv time to spout his crap on Smackdown, this was a one night appreciation for the ECW guys, they shouldn't have had a mic anywhere near them in the first place.

Not really that bad a shoot from RVD as i thought it would be. Few comments on the 'creative' team that took his voice away and the small attack on JBL before Rhyno gored him. Then of course Sabu's grand entrance, Hey Taker, that's how you do the lights out entrance. Another great match, Sabu showing he's still got it and puts most of the WWE locker room to shame. Again too short. Least i got to see Alfonso again *blows whistle*

Then another 5-10 minutes are wasted with the RAW entrance although this isn't as bad as the Smackdown one thanks to the fan spitting on Bischoff and showing his disdain for the over-rated jackass.

Benoit vs Eddie next and another top quality match again crapping all over King's comments of Extremely Crappy Wrestling. Pretty decent length for this one although still too short in my opinion.

Then we get a Vengeance promo. Simple question - Why? There's 2 more weeks of WWE shows to promote this crap why do they feel the need to eat into ECW PPV time promoting Vince's son in law. And as this is my shoot i'll say it right now, it's a damn freaking shame that it wasn't Trips up on that linewire in 99. The world would be a damn better place without him in it.

Awesome vs Tanaka was simply amazing. Best match of the night for me. Quite surprising Awesome never got pushed to the dizzy heights of WWE fame considering he's tall and looks the part as well as having some athletic ability (ah there we go, reason found), course WCW did ruin the hell out of him. Tanaka rocked as per usual.

And then the best part of the night for me - Heyman's shoot and probable resignation from the WWE :-D. I loved it. Putting Bischoff in his place, the attack on Edge and then the attack on JBL. Top quality stuff, the fact he isn't on the creative team anymore is a freaking crime.

The main event was just typical ECW, carnage, chaos and of course the Catfiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. It was great to see the BWO, Beulah and Francine back and the hug between Beulah and an absolutely claret soaked Dreamer ......... even if Beulah botched the DDT :-D

Then of course the invasion, it was written perfectly how it should have been showing the talent Heyman has. JBL can thank Buh Buh Ray for him not getting the crap knocked out of him when he dragged him out the ring as those ECW guys weren't letting him go easily after what he did to Meanie. Marked out like mad for the Tazmission, now that's a submission move. Was expecting an Austin shoot on Bischoff but then he's still on and off with WWE at the moment, shame this PPV wasn't done shortly after he walked out. Now that'd have been fun :-D

An absolutely great show, pwned the hell out of anything the WWE has done in my recent memory and will hopefully be the start of a comeback for it whether it be with Vince or without him

Just a shame Tanaka didnt win.. :( Ah well but fair play to him managing to get YET ANOTHER good match out of Mike Awesome.

Joey Styles. Pure class.. You could see the emotion in the ring at the start.

Reefer you missed BIG Guido.. Just a shame Big Sal wasnt there..

Only downside was that it wasnt on for long enough..

Right.. Wheres Congies ECW DVD's

Must be 100% honest it has definately made me love wrestling again as to be honest it was going a tad stale for me..

absolutely excellent.

best PPV in a LONG time, although i'm not sure how much of that was the novelty value.
the matches blew WWE matches out of the water, but would they have if the workers had to do it every night of the week?? hmmm...

either way, fantastic event, i taped it and will prolly get the dvd as well.

At college at moment so will just give a brief summary of my views on the event before my main review of it, considering i've only watched up to the Heyman shoot before i went to bed due to an exam today.

Firstly, nice way of Heyman to hand in his resignation, that was a damn good shoot promo, typical ECW. Especially loved the *you're only champ because HHH didn't want to work Tuesdays* comment and putting the vastly over rated Bischoff in his place. Heyman >>>>>>>>> Bischoff x a trillion million

Tanaka vs Awesome match was ..... well awesome. Just goes to show how badly WCW wasted him and how much punishment Tanaka can absorb.

I'm honoured as a New Yorker and ECW fan of Psicosis' tribute to take off his mask

Sabu despite his injuries can still put on a much better match than 3/4's of the WWE locker room, marked out like mad when i saw him.

Super Crazy rocks muchly. Lovely balcony dive and of course the 10 count in spanish from the ECW crowd. There's a reason why New Yorkers are the best damn wrestling crowd.

And lastly why the fudging hell were there Vengeance promos on a ECW event. HHH just can't keep his 10 foot nose out of bloody anything can he? I hope you were watching anyway Trips. Every single one of those matches were better than anything you've done in your whole f**king career you damn cancer.
