Sure, Damon, sure. The Live 8 concerts are apparently perpetuating the myth that Africa is a "failing and ill" place. Well guess what you berk, it pretty much is. He also attacked the line-up because it was too Anglo-Saxon and not enough African acts were taking part. Hello, Mr. Albarn? Anyone at home? This isn't a cultural festival celebrating all that is wonderful about third-world nations, this is a fund-raiser plain and simple, and if having big names on the bill gets people to fork out for tickets, advertising, donations blah blah blah, then so be it. How many people do you think would go if Ladysmith Black Mambazo were headlining?
Damon Albarn is obviously an expert on Africa, because he spent several months tootling around with musicians from Mali, and forced the rest of Blur to tag along to Morocco, subsequently breaking up the band, where they recorded their worst album to date. This to me looks like a classic case of someone who's spent a little time in a faraway place thinking they're an expert on the subject and not knowing when to shut their big stupid flapping mouth.
And I'm sure it has nothing to do with Gorillaz not being asked to perform.
Seriously, how crap is that comment? NOBODY will do a concert like that without thinking that maybe if they perform well they'll increase their album sales. Are they meant to perform crap just so this doesn't happen?
Plus he wants African acts, I don't know about you lot but I don't wanna go there to see some dodgy crap music that I don't like. It needs bands that people like, so people will actually apply for it.
Which reminds me, I need to text that number.
Is he telling us we should be donating money to... ourselves?
Ah, charity.
Whatever next.
Alburn will always have legendary status for calling Liverpool "practically third world".
Coxon is the man.
