YH, good point, but there isn't much variety of other words. If you run around calling them "plastics" "rubbers" or waterproof bottle end liquid spillage preventers you'll look like a right fool. Pencils use graphite but it's still mainly called lead.
So you're saying we should call them 'plastics'?
