XPW had built quite a reputation as one of the best promotions on the West Coast of America, with a useful mixture of Technical Wrestling and Garbage/Ultraviolence. XPW's downfall began when it's biggest star and former world Champion The Messiah fell out with owner Rob Black over accusations that Messiah had an affair with Black's former Porn Star wife, Lizzy Borden (an accustaion that cost Messiah his thumb, but that's another story). Messiah and Black had previously shared booking duties.
Shane Douglas, who had been extremely critical of XPW after their attempted 'Invasion' at an ECW PPV, turned back on his word and took Rob Blacks money to replace Messiah. Douglas would be in sole charge of the booking. Douglas immediately put the World Title on himself in his debut, booking the World Champion 911 to lose to himself without getting any offence in. Shane was clearly out of shape and there was some speculation about personal demons, particularly as he managed to puke up in the ring, during said title match.
Douglas then went two steps further, booking Borden as his personal valet and his good friend Chris Candido as the company's next biggest star, despite the fact that Candido was clearly in an even more drug addled state than Douglas and was routinely botching moves. Douglas and Candido squashed all the promotions noteable stars, who began to leave. The fine technical wrestling which XPW used to showcase was shown the door and the garbage content increased. Apart from in Douglas and Candido's matches of course, wouldn't want them getting hurt now would we? Crowds plummeted (unsurprisingly).
The only good news for XPW was it was put out of it's misery before it died a death. Federal charges against Black and Borden relating to some VERY nasty porn caused him to bring the fed top a close and Douglas moved on to TNA...
plus i know ECW is "all about the attitude, etc", but a lot of those guys (sabu, etc) have huge medical bills to clear and who's gonna have the deeper pockets? douglas or vinnie? exactly.
to me, this event by shane douglas is the equivelent of the older people at punk shows who stand at the back complaining that it's "not as good as it was" and throwing their "but it's my game, you can't play" attitude around at anyone who'll listen (and a load of others that don't want to)

Hmm, history seems to have conveniently forgotten that Shane Douglas was ECW's Triple H...

You're such a mark, you make Wardy look clued up.

It was posted on a very reliable wrestling news website, but a couple of months have passed since, so he may have changed his mind I suppose...

Shane Douglas event?
Obviously not as good a full-fledged ECW, but probably the best we can hope for.
