At the moment Ive got two (fairly rubish) websites hosted at i)blueyonder and ii) my university network. I thought it was about time I gave them some spit and polish and made them look a bit more classy. One way of me doing this is to get a proper .co.uk domain name rather than one of those rubbish "username.randomwords.webhost.net" style ones I currently have. Also the free web hosting usually limits the storage space.

Any suggestions as to where I should buy and host my domain name? And any features or anything I should look for (I'm not exactly up to date on this)?

Thanks in advance.

Freeola's a good option. The hosting is Free which you won't find in other places. As said before, how often are you going to upload to the site?

The best place to host a website? You'll want the Internet.

Seriously though, Freeola aren't bad - just dialing up that gets annoying, but you can get that out the way in a minute or two if it's just some coding and a few graphics.

£45 per year, unlimited webspace, bandwidth, 5 SQL databases, and they have an 'open' server - so you can the PHP functions that Freeola restrict.

*coughs*

Oh, and paid hosting limits it too.

What will the sites be used for though? Are they gonna be using loads of bandwidth a month or are they only small sites?

I use and am very happy with freeola: http://getdotted.com/

The only requirement that may affect you is that you need to be connected to freeola to FTP. I use freeola broadband so I'm sorted. If the sites are fairly static then FTPing through a dialup won't be the end of the world.

Under £20 for a co.uk or try one of their free domains to see if you like the service...

It nearly sounds as if I work there ;¬)

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
Very pleased
Very pleased with the help given by your staff. They explained technical details in an easy way and were patient when providing information to a non expert like me.
