Hi there.

Just about to buy my MRs a 12" G4 iBook (stock). She's decided to take the plunge into OSX, especially after seeing Tiger in action.

I've already bought Office 2004 for it, and Slide Track, but does anyone have any reccomendations, software wise, for a woman who is a total Mac n00b?

If this goes well, the £2000 I was going to blow an a new desktop PC may be used to get myself eithe 17" Powerbook or G5 desktop, and finally I'll be in a happy house of Mac users.

My girlfriend had a conservatory built recently, and we use it as a bedroom - it rules, except in the Summer (as we're finding out now) when all the crud on the house roof goes solid, cracks off, and falls onto the conservatory in the middle of the night. Also pigeons land on it, and their silhouettes look like dinosaurs are taking over. Can't wait to see what happens when a roof tile comes loose...

Or maybe the 15.
But probably not.

Joy... Just discovered that DC_Final is available on the Mac, so my decision is swaying in that direction, and there's a good chance GW will be ported too at somepoint so the 17" PB is looking good. I'll just have to keep my PC for now for gaming.

In short, no. on the Virtual PC homepage it makes a note that it can emulate 2D graphics easily, but 3D takes a massive battering. So no emulate games for now.

Hmmm, good question. With VirtualPC it's not so much a question of the speed (which isn't that great, although I've only ever used it on my 1.25GHz iMac) it's more of a question of the video card emulation.

If I had to guess I'd say "no" but you're best bet is to have a trawl though the Microsoft Knowledge base or some forums and see if anyone's tried it.

Appleworks is part of the standard OS X software so it should come with any new Mac, desktop or laptop ... *goes to read Apple site* ... although looking at the list of application ( http://www.apple.com/uk/macosx/techspecs/ ) it's conspicuous by it's absence. You do have TextEdit, though, which is a basic WP.

I think that's what they're aiming for eventually.

Here's another slightly related question...

If I picked me up a 17" Powerbook, with 1 or 2 GB Ram, will I in theory, eb able to run a game like Guildwars through Virtua PC on Tiger?
