"Earlier Lucas admitted his films have distinct sets of fans - the over 25s loyal to the first three films and the under 25s who adored the two prequels."

Really? What the hell gives him that idea? The majority of the users of this site are under 25 and I don't think any one of us would say that the prequels are the better films. I seriously can't think of a single person I know that would agree. Maybe it's an American thing, or maybe Lucas is just making up crap to make himself feel better. Who knows?

That's a rather silly statement. I'm no big Star Wars fan but I thought the older films were quite good when I was younger, and I'm still quite partial to them now. I'm under 25 and to me the prequels are a bunch of crap. I didn't even think much of the first one when I saw it at about age 11.

Lucas obviously doesn't really know a whole lot about the fans of his creation.

Apparently he's tinkered with them again for the 6-disc special *special* edition boxset release sometime in 2006...*sigh*

Upon reading this my order of enjoyment of the first 3 seem utterly screwed up.

Jedi > Hope > Empire

Though I was 7 when I first saw them, and the proper ones where the walls were blue due to bad quality.

Such is the nature of the prequel, I'm afraid. What do you want him to do, go back and somehow make the original trilogy 'better' by changing key scenes and adding new elements? Don't be silly! What lunacy you speak of!

It's going to suck. As long as it's got whizbang SF space battles (although I've heard they're incredible crowded and have none of the character of the battes in IV or VI. Droids and clones you see, no emotional investment required from the audience. The guys in IV actually caused a reaction when they snuffed it) to distract me from poorly written dialogue and shoddy acting, I'll be happy.

Oh, and those wipes. Grrrrr. They're part and parcel of Star Wars, but I do hate them...

Luke Skywalker or Kid Anakin?
Not a hard choice, is it.

Come Luke, let us make crazed anal love until the early hours.

Funny how Vader will go from breathing heavily loads in III, to not very much at all in VI, then gradually increasing again to the end.
Same with the lightsabre battles - from funky crazy swooshy stuff in III, to the rather dull, tame tap-tap-tap of IV.

the ONLY good things about 1+2 are Samuel Leroy, Natalie Portman, and the abundance of lightsabres

I think Jedi was my favourite of the original 3, although I'm not quite sure why. Although Empire was very good also. The new ones can just fart off though.
