It has elements of westerns in it (the han saloon shootout for example), but it also has a large amout of other influences. It it can't be anything other than a space opera though.
For a "western in space", watch "Battle beyond the stars" it's basically a space opera remake of "The Magnificent Seven", which in turn was a remake of the Japanese "Seven Samurai"
The only true western in there is "The Magnificent Seven", you know, cowboys and stuff.
