I've done an ADSL Guide speed test and want to know if these results for my 2MB ADSL connection are 'right'. The ISP is Pipex by the way.

Actual Speed
------------

Upstream: 240Kbs (30.0 KB/sec)

Downstream: 1227Kbs (153.4 KB/sec)

True Speed (estimated)
---------------------

Upstream: 259 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Downstream: 1325 Kbps (inc. overheads)

I'm not sure what the numbers in brackets mean.

Downstream 963 Kbps (120.4 KB/sec) 1040 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 117 Kbps (14.6 KB/sec) 126 Kbps (inc. overheads)

I had the exact same problem when we upgraded from a 1 to a 2mb connection,it took a while to resolve but it was my RWIN setting on my computer that needed changed after that we made the speeds that I had been expecting

Just done a quick test in my NTL connection:

(Running processes @ time = MSN, Norton NIS04, Outlook)

Downstream

Actual: 2857 Kbps (357.1 KB/sec)
True: 3085 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Upstream
Actual: 284 Kbps (35.5 KB/sec)
True: 306 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Ive had Steam update before @ 3007Kbps!;)

Wish NTL would sort out their upstream to something decent. But then if they finally merge this year with Telewest, then it's 18Mb/sec at the end of the year!;)

Is your network 10MB/s or 10Mb/s - I would suspect the latter. Alternatively, it could be 100Mb/s which would be 12.5MB/s..

Yup, the rated speed is always the theoretical maximum, but in reality is rarely reached. Mine is quoted at 10MB, but it only reaches those speeds when transferring stuff on the uni network. Sometimes, download speeds are 500KB-1MB/sec, but it's limited by the load and bandwidth of any given server.

Make sure you're not downloading anything at the time of the test becuse that messes up the result. Ive got a 2MB connection from Telewest and that always seems to run slower than it should.

So there's something wrong with my speed then? 1.3MB is lower than that other person's result of around 1.7MB. I've unplugged all the phone adapters from down stairs so it's just my adsl, but get no speed gain. Still about 1.3MB in the speed test. I'll phone Pipex and see what they have to say. 1.3MB is noway near 2MB.
